Brodeur.

He's free, a veteran, and would help Reimer/Scrivens infinitely.

Plus, we won't be stuck with him for 10 years.

Brodeur.

Firstly would cost no assets, shorter contract, allow Reimer/Scrivens to develop as well as the better possible mentor and leader in the room (HoFer, 3x cup winner, etc.).

Not knocking Luongo though, he would be great too, just Reimer and Scrivens would be pushed to the sidelines.

Easily Brodeur. It wouldn't cost us any assets, he would reasonably looking for a much shorter contract which gives the goalies in our system time to develop and while Brodeur isn't exactly what he use to be back in the day, he's still a great goalie though I'm iffy on what he'll be able to do if our defensive plays are as dreadful as they were last season.

Assuming 2 yrs at $6M per year as the rumour in another thread suggests, we could afford him.

Brodeur by a mile. Not even close.

Brodeur is probably the best possible option. Luongo is probably the worst.

Yes, Luongo is an albatross who is going to be making 5.3 million dollars when he's 42. Signing a 40 year old Brodeur to a 2 year 10M contract is much smarter.

Brodeur. Is just as good, if not better skill wise, will not cost us anything to sign beyond his contract and is not signed for another decade to a bloody crazy contract. Brodeur would be a great goaltender to help teach our young goalies and if/when one is ready to take over as our starter Brodeur can be moved. If we add Luongo we are stuck with him, for better or worse, until his contract expires.

Deducing the argument to age is too simplistic and not at all useful. It's not about how much you'll pay Luongo at 42 compared to Brodeur at 42. The TERM is the selling point, not the price. Generally, Leafs fans agree that the team needs a solid veteran - one who can stick around long enough to give the young goalies in our system a chance to develop without pushing them out of the way entirely.

I can't think of a better person to teach Reimer the real ropes of the crease, then Brodeur.. Especially helping Reimer with Allaire's style even more.
