Oh. Well.

Good luck with that, then. You'll be wishing Salo was shot happy until one of his 100mph slappers bounces off Stamkos' forehead.

This. You probably don't want him playing top minutes given his age and fragility. Still a very smart and reliable D-man too. He's always been so underrated.

At least he'll be with Ohlie now. Please take care of Sami!

P.S He's always been so pale too, he could use some sunshine down there in TBay.

Note to TBL fans: get him some good sunscreen. He is really white.
This is what worries me about Salo. He'll probably contract some rare form of instantaneous skin cancer while being eaten by a gator on his second day of practice.

Other than that, I'm ok with it. The market is what it is.

I should clarify - I meant Hedman is a little more shot happy, so he should be with Salo.

Hell with Hedman and MAB, Salo oughta fit right in when it comes to shot accuracy then.

Or getting struck by a stray arc of electricity from the tesla coils during an on ice celebration. This guy has like comedic levels of bad luck, I'll say that.

New Safety measures:

- Sami will be considered wearing a red 'no contact' jersey at all times
- All boards and glass will have 2 inches of bubble wrap applied
- All showers, tubs or other areas that may be wet will have non slip strips applied
- Bars of soap, and bannanas still in their skin will be banned from the ice palace.
- All sharp edges must have protective covers when not in use.
- If any player, or players family is sick, or thinks they may be sick, a preemptive course of antibotics will be gioven to Sami.
- All pre game soccer, or other game must be played with Nerf balls
- All pants will now have kevlar inserts, as will the back of all jersies.

Pretty good signing. At that kind of money, we can expect that he will be playing in our top 4. The money might seem a bit high, but the term is only 2 yrs so it's not that big of a deal. He averaged a little over 20mins a game last season, so he should be able to handle playing on at least the 2nd pairing.

We definitely needed another experienced dman.

Brewer - 840 NHL games
Bergeron - 465 NHL games
Hedman - 214 NHL games
Lee - 187 NHL games
Mikkelson - 127 NHL games
Aulie - 76 NHL games

I suppose where he plays will depend a lot on what Yzerman does for the rest of the summer.

As of now I would put our D pairings at:
Hedman // Salo
Brewer // Lee
Mikkelson // Aulie
MAB

I wouldn't hate that. I think Salo would be a good partner for Hedman, and Brewer on the 2nd line would def help Lee a lot. If Salo (or anyone else) gets hurt, that D core would look pretty shaky though.

If we can get someone like: Bryce Salvador, Michal Rozsival, or Carlo Colaiacovo for a similar contract, that would be fantastic. None of those would be big name signings or anything, but they would look good on a 2nd pairing with Brewer and provide solid depth in the likely event another Dman gets injured.

I would be happy going into the season with:
Hedman // Salo
Brewer // Rozsival
Mikkelson // Lee
MAB or Aulie

1st unit PK D:
Hedman // Brewer

1st unit PP:
Malone // Lecavalier // St.Louis
Stamkos // Salo

I wonder what this means for Bergeron though? I like him, but Salo kind of makes him redundant as a PP guy right?

Was talking to my buddy who's a Canucks fan last night and he said Salo's never played on the right on the PP before. Also, he thinks Salo wouldn't be a good fit with Stamkos on the blue line because we let in enough shorthanded goals as it is and Salo's too slow to chase down the PK counter and Stamkos, well he isn't a defenseman.

I don't think it'd be a huge issue for Salo to play on the right, since Stamkos has a more accurate shot and his one-timer is more useful/deadly from the left point. If anything, Stamkos also drifts down on the PP, so Salo would be playing more center-right on the blue line. I think Salo would diversify our PP and not let teams just zone in on Stamkos, but he brings up a valid point about Salo's recovery speed to stop shorthanded goals.

Its not just the shot, that right handed pass to Stamkos at the left circle should net Stamkos even more goals. He had 24 goals when we had Foster, who isn't nearly as good as Salo. Now Factor in MAB and the resurgence of VL on the PP...Stamkos with a GPG?

I envision the set up for the first PP unit will be, VL in front, Marty right circle Stamkos left circle MAB left point Salo right point.

unless he has an andreychuck-like impact on our young defensemen (or we get ohlund off the books somehow), this is overspending for sure. very strange, we have 2 clusters of DMen at opposite ends of their career and nobody really in their prime

Sounds so deadly... But what looks good on paper doesn't always translate into games... As we all know.

I only way to get a top 4 in their prime is:

- Draft and develop
- FA and pay a lot 5m-10m /year
- Trade. Everyone wants top 4 in their prime or about to be, so be prepared to trade some top assets

My guess SFY offered the 19th to Chicago for Hjalmarsson and was turned down. It may take Connelly+.
