I really don't think so. Despite what CBJ fans believe, Dubinsky is NOT a salary dump. The year before this one, he lead our team in points. I really don't believe trading away three KEY roster pieces makes us a better team now. Pass.
Is it possible that this is taking so long because Howson is making sure that he gets players that actually want to play in Columbus and will not pout and cry like Carter?

The Philadelphia Flyers are most definitely on Rick Nash's "approved" list. Don't pretend to know exact list, but Flyers are indeed on it.

No, its taking so long because teams are unwilling to meet his current price.
That team doesn't look good. Absolutely zero center depth. It seems a lot of Ranger fans here are just too obsessed with the name on the back of the Jersey, despite the fact that Nash only outscored Stepan by eight points this season. On top of that, Nash is 28? Stepan is 22. Nash had an extra minute per game TOI than Stepan, which averages out to about 4-5 more games worth of ice time. Oh, and Nash makes 7 million more than Stepan does.
1) Rangers don't want to trade Stepan or Kreider because their high upside
2) Rangers don't want to trade MDZ, McDonagh, Staal or Girardi because it leaves them thin on the blue line
3) Rangers don't want to trade Hagelin because...well they just don't
4) Rangers DO want to trade Dubinsky to offset salary
Honestly, I get all this but when it comes to a Nash trade something of value HAS to come back to Columbus. Columbus needs forwards and if there is an area where the Rags appear to be able to sacrifice a little of the future it would be with a young forward. Columbus doesn't NEED MDZ - gladly accept him as part of a deal but he's not a need.
I don't think a deal happens without Stepan or Kreider. For many that's a non-starter. It's why these threads have become such a challenge to partake in. I've said my piece and will wait for "Rick Nash - infinity and beyond"....next thread.
Exactly. CBJ doesn't do this trade unless it helps them get somewhat better. They are not forced to trade Nash, so they are not going to do NYR a favor and just take whatever they are willing to give for Nash. Impact players will have to go both ways and the Rangers happen to have a couple young ones of interest with high potential. One of them is gone if this deal is done.

and have been since February. There needs to become a point when you realize that nobody is going to pay what you're asking. That will either happen in the next few weeks, or this will roll into the season.

or some of the teams on Nash's list are still involved in the Parise/Suter sweepstakes. If the Flyers lose out (and especially if the Pens win), expect a bidding war between the Rangers and Flyers.

Something tells me that the Rangers are looking to include Del Zotto in the deal and Columbus will be sending back a defenseman along with Nash. Fine with me depending on what the return is.
However, the deal that was "agreed" upon between the fans here is severe overpayment from the Rangers side of things. The Rangers give up two versatile forwards that are legit top-6'ers, plus Del Zotto who is a 22 year old 40 point defender who's cracked Double Digits in goals in 2 of his first 3 seasons on top of a 1st rounder for Nash and a 2nd??? Absolutely not. If you want that deal, there has to be A LOT MORE coming back from Columbus.
Again people, Dubinsky is not a cap dump. Cash for Nash and Gagnefan092 might be set on that mindframe because they think everything the Rangers have to offer outside of Stepan, McDonagh, Del Zotto and Kreider is crap, but that's not the case and Hagelin put up 38 points in only 64 games starting out on our 4th line.
You can flame me for it all you want, but I have a hard time believing that the deal that nets Nash is going to be better than Sather's final offer at the deadline of Dubinsky, Miller, Erixon, Thomas, and a 1st. I've never seen Sather cave in a trade before. Don't see it happening now. I'll eat my crow if I'm wrong, but Slats is the most shrewd of negotiators in this league.

Don't see that at all. They're waiting for Parise to decide his destination. It has a MAJOR impact on other deals.

You don't sell prospects to fans unless they're of the Crosby type.
Wherever you got this idea, I don't know, but that's not the case at all.

Sidney Crosby regularly plays with guys like Pascal Dupuis and Tyler Kennedy. Pretty much right on par what Rick Nash plays with.
The thing is, Sidney Crosby is Sidney Crosby. Rick Nash is just Rick Nash. Not a slap at him, but Sidney Crosby is one of the most talented hockey players we've ever seen, like it or not. He does things with the puck that leave guys like Gretzky and Lemieux baffled. Like that behind the back pass from behind the net in the playoffs against Ottawa in 2010? Any other player in the league with the exception of maybe Pavel Datsyuk and I'd say circus show play, we'll never see that again. Crosby can make plays like that on the regular and that's why he makes scrubs like Kennedy and Dupuis, guys who are bottom-6 forwards, look like viable top-6 players.
Remember Andy Hilbert? 2005-06, after coming to the Pens and playing with Crosby, the guy put up a near point per game in the short time he played with him... Crosby turned an AHL'er into a near point per game player for a stretch in his ROOKIE YEAR.

I don't envision a scenario in which the Rangers get into a bidding war for Nash's services.
Sather gets Nash at his price, or Nash goes somewhere else.

But, but didn't Larry Brooks supposedly say they weren't. I don't get Brooks, he seems more fanboy than journalist.
A couple of us on the Jackets board have been on the Pavelski train for a long time. I think a deal of Pavelski, Niemi, 1st and prospect would be a good return. Pavelski would give us a psuedo #1 center and Niemi would address our goaltending issues.

Please trade cap albatross to Philly (or even SJ).
