Their top-9:

Stastny
Parenteau
Jones
Landeskog
Downie
Hejduk
O'Reilly
McGinn
_______

Then their bottom 3:
Mcleod
Mitchell
Kobasew
Olver

They *may* be able to flex another top-9 into that mix, but they're removing one to add one - makes little sense for them. Centres are much harder to acquire than wingers, so selling them on a swap where they spend their c depth and acquire more wing depth will be quite difficult.

That's technically 3 1st rounders; our top 2 forward prospects and one of our best D prospects.

The problem with that is we don't actually spend our surplus here - we just swap Mac for Kane. We aren't in a position yet to be spending high picks/prospects yet and this deal takes 3 big futures away from us. I dunno... I like Kane but that's a tough pill to swallow.

Of course - then there's Duchene (how did I miss him?).

So my point: they don't need to add to their top-6 core.

You left Duchene out of the top-9, but I wouldn't be sold on either McGinn or Hejduk in the top-9. I'd be more sold on McGinn.

There's a reason my proposal has a top-9 winger going along with a replacement top-9 center and a top-4 defenseman.

is that such a bad thing?

I'm ok giving burke this season but if he isn't able to do it a high pick and new GM would be great

if he's unable to sign players and unable to make trades then you have to start asking the question is he the problem

he did just make the JVR trade so i'm probably being inpatient

You can't sign players if they don't want to sign. You can't trade for players that are unavailable, or have an outrageous price tag.

I get people's frustration, but what would you have Burke do?

Yeah like Brodeur was going to come here anyway. He doesn't want to play with the pressure here and 0% chance of winning a cup in the twilight of his career.

Not to mention, chances are he would have stayed in NJ anyways. If he didn't he would have gone to a contender.

It's frustrating bigtime. Burke has Ben here for 5 years and still hasn't got a number 1 goalie. It's his downfall with every team. That's frustrating. He's done a great job other then that, but with no goalie again..... That's just bad gming

i'd like to see a good hockey trade!

TOR: Couture + Murray
SJ: Gardiner + Kulemin + Bozak

Hate giving up Gards but IMO Couture is a budding superstar and would be amazing between Lupul and Kessel.

he tried to play the odds, 5 free wallets hoping 1 turns out
its a good idea but i think only as a secondary method of adding talent to a team
if the team was drafting high picks the past 5 years plus adding these free wallets they would probably be one of the top up and coming teams in the league

They won't send him for Nash, I doubt they'd send him for Gardiner.

What #1 goalie has been available? Vokoun likely had no interest in signing with the Leafs. Luongo has been available for a couple months now, but who knows how much Vancouver wants for him.

Side note, I do expect some activity today. BB said yesterday late afternoon that we weren't done. Gotta think more action is imminent today.

I'd rather try to pry Duchene free at a later time for a cheaper price, hopefully.

I think that once Parise and Suter are off the market, things will start to happen. Especially if Parise ends up in Pittsburgh. You gotta think that the Rangers and Flyers would up their offers for Nash if Parise lands with the Pens. Could get very interesting!

If the Leafs aren't willing to trade the likes of Kessel, Gardnier, Lupul, Kulemin and IMO the over rated Phaneuf, they're not getting much in return. Trading under achieving over paid players isn't going to get the Leafs much, either will the few prospects they other teams would be interested in.

There aren't too many forwards in the world that would be an upgrade on Kessel, and I doubt any of them are available.

The word is Bobby Ryan, what the Leafs will have to give up for him is the question, probably Grabo for starter who I would have no problems including in a package, picks(not crazy of giving up, but for Ryan, can live with)one of our A prospects.

We will wait and see how Burke pulls this one off.

Edit: Just saw Marek's comment.
