if we can get Couturier, Voracek, Coburn and 2 1sts for Weber, and Poile doesn't take it, then you will find me on the Fire Poile bandwagon....
if we do that and sign Carle or trade for JBo, we will be a MUCH better team than if we kept 6/20.
Flyers fan dropping in here. I really don't think you will get three roster players in return for Weber from the Flyers. Now before you say i'm crazy let me try to explain my self. All the reports that are coming out it looks like Suter and parise won't be signing here. So if we give you three roster players for Shea Weber(2 forwards, and a dman), forwards we would have 9. Defenseman we would be alright with, because trading coburn or Mez and replacing him with Weber is amazing.
The thing is with the forwards. We trade you Couturier and Voracek, we are depleted up front now. This wouldn't be a bad thing, only if free agency didn't start yet. If this was made at the draft it would be a great deal.
Making this sort of trade would kill us up front. You could move Read up front with Giroux, but then we would need a whole third line. Almost all the third line players are off the board now into free agency(the one's at least I was interested in). There is no way this deal goes down.
Couturier
Coburn
1st(2013)
1st(2014)(also have to remember we will be holding the draft this year, Flyers will most likely want to have some kind of pick.)
3rd(conditional on reaching the Finals)
Almost like the Pronger trade but you are getting a lot more value. Even then I still have trouble making that trade as a Flyers fan. And I love Shea Weber

I was only quoting what Ek was speculating Philly might offer(or had considered offering)
I was also assuming that you guys end up getting Parise, which of course is no sure thing
personally, I would take Cooter, Coburn and one first but thats because i think Cooter is going to be amazing..

My first thought at your post was DEAL! I would do that also. It would suck to lose Couturier, but Weber is the best of the best right now.
Also I know it was Eklund just speculating, I was just trying to show how he doesn't really think it through when he is trying to do "journalism". He should really just keep to reporting his rumors and such.
If we do trade Weber, instead of getting two 2nd liners, a 2nd D pairing guy, and some picks, I hope we got after a elite or borderline elite player and smaller pieces instead. Some ideas of centerpieces for a Weber trade.
Anaheim-Bobby Ryan+
Boston- Dougie Hamilton+
Buffalo- Tyler Myers+
Calgary- Sven Baertschi/JBo+++ (not a good fit)
Carolina- Jeff Skinner+
Chicago- Kane/Sharp/Hossa/Keith/Seabrook (Lots of good options)
Colorado- Matt Duchene+
Columbus- Rick Nash+
Dallas- Benn? Erikkson?
Detriot- Zetterberg+? (Not a good fit IMO)
Edmonton- Hall+/Eberle+/Yak+
Florida- Kulikov++ (not a good fit)
LA- Richards/Brown/Carter (no one good enough will be traded)
Minnesota- Granlund+++
Montreal- PK Subban++
New Jersey- Adam Larrson++
NYI- Reinhart++
NYR- Staal+/Girardi+/McDonagh+/Kreider+/Stepan+ (tons of good options)
Ottawa- Not a good fit IMO. They won't move Karlsson
Philly- Couturier+
Phoenix-OEL+
Pittsburgh- Letang+
San Jose-Marleau+/Pavelski++
St. Louis- Oshie+/Tarensko+
Tampa- Hedman+
Toronto-Phaneuf++
Vancouver-Kesler+ (this deal makes an enourmous amount of sense to me)
Washington- Backstrom+
Winnipeg-Bogosian+

You need to consider who will have the cap space and financial resources to make Weber more than just a rental, and who will also have the assets we would like in return. That list will be trimmed significantly, as a result, down to something like:
Anaheim (a budget team, but reportedly went after Suter)
Carolina (did go after Suter, but no way they trade Skinner)
Colorado
Rangers
Flyers
Penguins
Leafs
Canucks
Edmonton (I just don't see this a realistic destination for Weber, but..who knows)
There's more than a few names on that list that I don't see any chance of being moved though: Kesler, Karlsson, Backstrom, Skinner, any of the Hawks but Sharpe, any of the Kings, Hedman...

I'd also want someone reasonably young, nobody older then Weber maybe? No Marleau, Nash, Zetterberg, etc. I want someone who'll be the face of this franchise for more then a couple years.
Anyone else see the lack of signings today and think that there's a flood of movement waiting on Parise and Suter.
I could see DP (and about a dozen other interested GMs) calling guys like Jokinen, Carle, Hudler, Jagr, Coliacovo etc and saying "hey, we might have a pretty big deal for you depending on what happens with 1A and 1B, so just sit tight and you'll hear from us".

That's exactly what I think is happening, both in the FA market and the trade market. I think when Suter and/or Parise sign, we better buckle up. Jagr, Jokinen, Carle, Hudler, Coliacovo, JBo, Martin, Nash, and Ryan could move within hours.
So you guys think as soon as Suter and/or Parise signs we are going to see a lot of movement?
maybe not immediately but thats almost certainly why nothing else is happening right now. everyone in on those two has offered so much money that they cant afford to make offers to other players yet
Trade Weber for Voracek, Hartnell, Mez, and a couple of 1sts
Trade Blum+ for JBo
Sign a veteran 7th defenseman

Wilson becomes trade bait for sure, either for an upgrade on D or as part of a package for a true #1C.
The main holes on that team are a Defensive D to pair with JBo (maybe switch Josi and Mez?) and a true top line center.
I do feel Parise (for forwards) and Suter (for D) are holding everything up and tons of dominoes fall as soon as they are settled.
But the longer it plays out, the worse it is for Nashville IMHO. We may miss the big prize(s) and end up way overpaying for even lesser talent. In short, we may be screwed either way.
I would love to be wrong about this, BTW. Just trying to be realistic on the outcome.
