^ It shows the entire league agrees, he wasn't worth his qualifying offer.

Pouliot got $1.8 btw....so Lats' value is definitely decreasing since he's not even worth his salary.

We dont know that. For all we know there could have been an offer on the table from a west coast team for considerably more than that.

Like I said, assuming he is serious about being close to his kid, he could have accepted this on location alone.

The offer from one team proves that no one in the league would have given him more? Ottawa gets him where he wanted to be, closer to his son. It also gets him almost his QO in salary (after bonuses) and leaves him as UFA next year. I have absolutely no doubt a team further south offered him multiple years and another offered him 1 year at more than his QO. A Mueller deal will be a little more telling about what the market would bear.

No way Lats turned down a contract worth more than twice the one he signed!

You do know that Lats' deal was for $2MM (after bonuses) right?

No one said anyone offered more than $4MM for him.

Sorry, didn't see bonuses listed...he still has to reach them.

Some people do have priorities other than money. And once again, if we assume that Lats desire to be closer to his son is sincere, then I think this could be one of those times.

Gui being gone, makes me sad, but I wish only the best for him in Ottawa, one of my alternate favorite teams.

Ottawa gets a great power forward. When he was healthy he was a difference maker here.

Isn't Ottawa close to home for him?

It is.

It was either MTL or OTT. OTT called him faster.

Thanks in advance!
I bet he pots 40 this year. He's coming back totally healthy, in shape, and with a whole lot to prove. (Plus this just seems like precisely the sort of situation that always bites Minnesota teams in the ass.) Best goal scorer on the Wild when healthy; you guys got a great deal and the Wild brass and beat writer were just about the only ones who thought quibbling over $500k in cap hit instead of just qualifying him was somehow a good idea.

Well, it turned out to be $1.3m in cap hit.

Sounds like something that would happen. But who knows, maybe this is the year things change.

Do bonuses not count against the cap?

That was meant to be an out-there prediction that I'd throw $5 on and hope to get rich off of, if I were a betting man.

It's a $2MM cap hit unless the bonus cushion is brought back into effect.
