He's shown a serious lack of respect for his opponents in the past and I really don't like that. If Torts can get him to be less of a *******, he'll be a good Ranger and a fan favorite. Let's hope that happens.

EDIT: wow, getting a little overzealous with the censorship huh?

When the linesmen intervened and Asham realized Mara was hurting, he let up. I'd say he showed some respect there.

Yeah, he definitely did. I'm not saying he's never been respectful, but most of the stuff I've seen from him recently is a bit worrying, the Schenn crosscheck being the worst.

never been a fan of this guy, but a dirty player is enabled by a coach I'd think. I don't think Torts will let him be a goon. Sure he'll drop the gloves and take some dumb penalties, but I can't see him continuing his dirty streak.

At his cap and his impact, this is a really solid signing. i somehow doubt he'll have the dedication that Prust had, which is a shame.

Just don't crosscheck people to the neck and punch them in the back of the head when they're down, and I'll be fine with the signing.

I like the contract but I don't like the player. Don't know how to feel about this.

Asham is a guy you hate when he plays against you, but love when he's on your side.

I've always noticed him when his teams play the Rangers, and that's a good thing to say about someone.

If he essentially matches what Prust did last year, it'll be a good signing. Anything more and it's a bonus.

Contrast that, though, with him crosschecking a guy in the face and punching him when he's down, and he also did the douchey "put him to sleep" thing on Beagle who was pretty injured after the fight.

i don't like asham as a player. i don't want a guy who loses his cool in the playoffs (which he did) and gets himself suspended. this team doesn't need toughness. i'm hoping sather knows what he's doing here but haley and asham is not cutting it for me
Both guys lost their cool in the playoffs...

Curious that there hasnt been any interviews or snippets from either Asham or Haley regarding the signings. Usually one of the beatwriters will talk to him and put it out there.

When the adrenaline is pumping through your veins guy can do some unorthodox things. When Kocur one punched Claude Boivin he and the linesman were both cracking up. Orr had a smirk on his face when he clobbered Fedoruk. Both of those guys were considered stand up guys. Heat of the moment things happen. Rob Ray did it a couple of times after he KO'd guys. It happens...

yeah but there's a difference between signing a guy after he loses his cool against someone else and signing a guy who puts one of your own players' career in jeopardy.

His wife (or girlfriend, not sure if they're married but they have a kid together) is from my town (small town on Long Island), I'll refrain from saying which one for confidentiality reasons. He hangs out here in the summers, and I've met him a few times. He's quiet, seems like a nice enough dude. When I first met him he was playing for the Islanders, I told him I was a Ranger fan to his face, haha. He goes "yeah there's a lot of them around here."

I love the guys who call him a "dirty" player. 1 suspension in 13 season. That is not dirty. U want a dirty player go look up simon or hollweg.

Lets not kid ourselves. Asham is one bad assed SOB. But he's now our SOB. A tougher, more committed opponent would be hard to find. He makes us tougher to play against. It's automatic.

I feel like Asham might help some Rangers fans forget about Avery finally

edit: wow, they played together in Jersey AND Pittsburgh.

this guy is going to find himself pasted to the bench if he doesn't hustle on the backcheck.

I think this is a waste of capspace but hopefully he proves his detractors wrong. NY needs someone to bring the wood on the forecheck and instigate, hopefully he can deliver on that.

Remember this guy was suspended by the NHL for 4 games last season so he often plays over the edge.

Probably closer to Avery than Prust. Oh well with the money Montreal offered to Prust there was no way he was staying in NY

Are you joking? This was a great signing, very shrewd maneuver by Slats. He is a perfect fourth line player. Fights, is a pain to play against, and has a knack for leaving his fingerprints all over a game. Also he has only been suspended once in his 13 year career. He plays on the edge, and is a great agitator. For years I have watched him within the ATL Division, and I am sure you will not be disappointed by his play.
