Goalie tandem signed. Only one thing left to do before the puzzle pieces fall into place...

This has made my day/night/week. I'm so happy right now!

I hadn't had a chance to check up on things today, then a few minutes ago a friend of mine who doesn't even care about hockey sent me a text saying there was good news on ESPN.

I'm thinking it had something to do with the Yankees, since ESPN cares about hockey as much as I care about basketball.

Then I see Brodeur resigns with Devils for 2 years and I actually said YES! outloud.

Ah, great news.

I'm a little weary of the second year since it will count against the cap no matter what. I just hope Marty can keep his level of play up from the playoffs because he was hit or miss during the regular season.

He was pretty consistent late in the season after all star break. Some bad games here, and there, and a couple in the playoffs. It happens with everyone including a younger Marty. Hopefully Pete limits his starts like he did this last year, but not too much. Seemed to work out pretty good. He was kinda bad in the first half. Not every game, but a few games where I was left banging my head. I thought for sure he was done after last year at that time.

I remember being his biggest critic on here in November, and everyone saying ''It's not his fault! He had no chance on any of those goals!'' Then when he had a bad game in the second half some of the same people said ''God Marty you've been playing like **** all year!'' It gave me a good laugh or two.

It's great that we can look back & laugh bc for the first time ever, last night I had a sinking feeling that Marty playing somewhere else would be real.

And the fact that we would end up with Hedberg as our starter (Yikes) & Possibly trading for Loungos monster cap hit (Even more Yikes!) really made me sad and scared.

With Hedberg we would be a bubble playoff team at best. With Lou we make the dance but probably get bounced. Marty is by far the most solid option & I'm glad we get his services instead of Chicago or some other team making a run at the cup.

Could you imagine this season if Marty wins somewhere else like in Chi-Town? I would have such mixed feelings.

Also looking through TG's tweets I love the one about Clarkson being more nervous about Brodeur being UFA than Brodeur himself

As a Flyers fan, I am glad to see this because despite my hatred of the Devils, I think a team should be able to keep its players. I want to be able to look back in 20 years and talk about Brodeur with the Devils and not have some asterisk like "well, except for those two years in Detroit" or wherever. I also wish Parise would stay for the same reason. I think he belongs in NJ. I don't want to see him in another uniform.

(Although, I wanted the Flyers to get Hedberg as their backup).

TGfireandice: Martin Brodeur's 2 year-contract pays $4 million in 2012-13 and $5 million in 2013-14. Avg of $4.5 mil. Includes full no-trade.

I'm so glad we signed Broduer. Just last week, I finally learned how to properly spell his name.

I grow tired and irritated with the divorce comments around his contract and play. As if he's the only person in pro sports to have been divorced.

Get some new material or go chat on puckdaddy. He'll engage you with fat jokes to tickle the two neurons you're using that are bored.

Add me to the list of irrational HF'ers (that may be redundant lol), but definitely would have been more upset about Marty leaving than Zach (potentially) walking away.

Zach walking away makes sense, he is being courted like a princess.

Marty wearing another sweater makes no sense, at all.

I'd have cried like girl if Marty signed somewhere else.

Whereas, I am just bracing for reality when it comes to Zach, and will be relieved regardless of the decision, pro or con.

I just now thought of this earlier today. When Marty said he would talk it over for two weeks with his family I think he knew all along he was coming back to play again. I think what he discussed with his family was discussing if they were fine with him playing for two more years. Not that this is hard to realize, and I'm sure I'm not the first to think of this. Just throwing it out there.

It is a treat cause I would have though Marty would have retired 4-5 years ago with the wear, and tear and all the games played. I definitely didn't see him playing to 2014 or even past 2010 if you asked me at any time before he signed that last contract in 06. He said his level of play answered a lot of questions about if he could play more. He sounded in 2010/2011 like he would be done after this last year. Everyone was down in the dumps then though cause of the losing. Even Patty said he would be LONG retired by then when someone asked something to him about the 2018 Olympics which he would be 42. Long retired to me meant he probably would have retired 4-5 years before that.

Glad Marty, and Moose are back! 83 year old tandem by the time the contracts end!
