He already upgraded it. Gaustad gonne center a second line and Spaling will move to wing to play alongside.

The thing is with all of this is that we can say with 100% certainty that Poile did not sign Parenteau. Nobody can argue otherwise, it's a fact.

But to say that nobody can complain because maybe Poile wasn't in on the action in the first place, or maybe he offered a similar contract and the player just opted for another team. That's all speculation and what if's.

Surely it's not difficult for keen observers and defenders of rationality and logic to see the difference.

We rarely see disappointment expressed solely that player X wasn't signed. We routinely see expressions of displeasure in Poile for not signing the player. Continuing the Parenteau example ... "my first gripe of the day with poile" and "poile is the only one who can be blamed" ... both completely based on assumptions. None of us know if Poile made an offer, what that offer might have been, etc.

With Suter and Parise, we know that offers were made. Now, it's all a matter of speculation right now as to what we've offered either player and how competitive those offers are. If we get or don't get a player, we won't know if it is the result of pay structure or a desire to play in a certain division or local tax rates. What I'm confident of is that no matter what, somebody will blame Poile without fact.

other than Brodeur and Moose, no action so far today, right?

guess everything really does hinge on Parise and Suter...

Not true! Andrew Ebbett signed!

Once Parise or Suter (likely Parise first) signs, things are going to go nuts. Teams that miss out on Parise will go hard after Jokinen, Mueller, Nash, Ryan, etc. and teams that lose out on Suter will go hard after Carle, JBo, Martin, etc.

I understand Parise a bit more, he went to game 6 of the finals so that's playing intense hockey close to a month longer than Suter did. He might also have a wider interest in cities that he would play in.

Suter however has had so much time to think about this, he had a limited list of cities/teams that he wanted to play for. It seemingly should just have come down to adding the offers from yesterday into that equation. I'm not saying that it's an easy decision, but the longer he drags it out, the worse he looks IMO.

unless he's trolling the league and intends to sign the the Preds this whole time

Someone on the trade boards speculating he's waiting on Parise. If Parise goes to Minny, Suter follows. If Parise goes anywhere else, Suter goes to ______, whoever he has decided.

maybe no one tampered with either guy for once? And they truly are weighing their options and teams respective pitches?

Yeah, they got the years wrong. Should be 16/4, not 16/2

no jokinen. wait around any longer and trade will be our only option to improve. especially considering how weak the free agent pool was to begin with..

we have to wait. what do you think the response would be if we went to plan B and Suter said he wanted to stay but Poile moved on?

Was Jokinen really ever an answer up front? Aging center. Decent numbers but not much better than what we already have in Fisher and Legwand. I was never warm on the idea of Jokinen. It's like he's the best one out there so we should sign him. Terrible idea. You sign guys because you think they'll make the team better long term. I just don't feel he was ever a good fit for us. Losing him to the 'Peg is not that big a deal.

he was a cancer wherever he has been. Think about it. Calgary is terrible offensively. and they let a 60 point center who played their top line walk.
