Quick and Ward, both more accomplished than Price with a Cup and Conn Smythe, make less, for instance.
Ward signed his contact 2 years ago when the salary cap was a lot less and Quick's deal is 10 years with the finally 2-3 years being a considerably lower salary.

with our crappy defense, i thought carey was absolutely fine.

********. You're going to credit the Kings and Hurricanes for Ward and Quick's successes? Those guys were reason number 1 they even won the Cup, and their Conn Smythe reflects that.

He doesn't even have a Cup! Should have just signed Osgood instead.

Are you guys serious saying we should have walked?

Please tell me you're not.

I think it's overpayment, but walking away is not an option. Jesus.

If we still had Halak? Yeah sure.

But with Budaj and Desjardins?

I'll take the $6.5M cap hit any day.

Price is worth 4 mil at best but hey let's cripple ourself for the next 6 years. 2.5 mil too much the guy has shown nothing and still he gets a big paycheck.

He's greedy i hope Subban won't get more than 5 mil.

I was a huge Price fan and wanted him over halak but i'll take a halak at 4 mil before a Price at 6.5.

I can't believe 6.5 for an just above average goaler that's your one bad move Bergevin.

Well you're wrong? The fact that he got 6.5 million for 6 years kind of proves that the management (which is what matters) sees it that way. The only guy who would even be close to Price is Subban, but Price is more important.

Even if Price is considered somewhat overpaid by some here @ 6.5M he is the Habs most important player and is paid like it.. I'm sure if he was to receive an offer sheet it would have been for probably more from a team like the Leafs..

6.5M is ok. Not as bad as some make it to be. He's our most talented asset, regardless of position. So he's the bar from which all players will be measured upon.

6.5M is nothing if you look at all major assets in the league. Face the fact that he's our most important asset. You cannot give him less, specially in our tax ridden province. He's losing at least 1.5M in clean money each year because of our tax system. The naysayers, who probably never made close to paying 50% in taxes on their revenues, should know that the end figure is the most important, not the actual salary he's going to make. Montreal = 15% more taxes paid than everywhere else in NA.

Way to put words in my mouth, I'd expect nothing else from you.

they were an IMPORTANT part, no doubt, hence the trophies. They weren't the ONLY part, which is what Carey would hvave had to have been last season.

Get it!?

Cory Schneider got $4 million a year and he's played 68 ****ing games in the NHL, Price at $2.5 mill more than that a year is a fair deal.

I'm curious. To all the whiners, what is your solution? No one in the system, no one availible in free agency. It's easy to criticize, but lets hear your solution.

If you think Price is your franchise player, and if he is your franchise player, you'll be the next Oilers with 3 consecutive 1st round picks. He was 20th In save percentage, and nowhere near the top 5 in the NHL, yet he gets Rinne money. Hes won one playoff series in his career. Give me a break.

Pretty much how I feel. I mean, you have no other options but paying the man. I'd rather overpay for him now than letting him walk and have to find a goalie.

Again: I'm not happy with the hit, but I'm happy he's signed. Doesn't mean I wanted him gone just because I think this is overpayment.

Every time people use Quick's cap hit as a comparable I feel so embarrassed for their blatant lack of understanding of how things work in the NHL.

Ward signed that contract when the cap was at 56.8 million.

Again, if you can't understand why using that as a comparable really makes no sense at all I feel sorry for you.

Ward has made the playoffs once since he won that cup on that anomaly of a run where the oilers even made the finals.

Quick's team defense has been infinitely better than prices.
