I'd rather acquire top 6 players and push guys like Brouwer down the chart to the bottom 6 rather than sign bottom 6 forwards. But take what you can get, at least this Ward didn't cost $12m.

Satisfied with the first July move of McPhee. Heard many good things about Crabb from Dangle on his LFR.

Seems like a Matt Hendricks type acquisition. Besides the walk on part.

Leafs fan here coming in peace.

Great signing for you guys. I was a Joey Crabb fan. King Crabb does all the little things right and a jack of all trades. You'll love him. I wanted him to return to the Leafs but there just not room for him here.

That's discouraging.

So what is the word on Mr. Crabbs? Is he a grit player? Someone who can give Hendricks face a break if a scrum is needed? 3rd or 4th line?

From what people have said, he's a 4th liner with scoring touch.

4th liner with scoring touch? Isn't that against the laws of hockey? Scoring touch is fine, but does he have a mean streak? I hope so.

If I was going to compare him to a current Capital, it would be Hendricks. Hard worker, kills penalties, hits stuff (though not really intimidating), and is a threat to score in transition.

If Mr. Crabbs is comparable to Hendo he sounds good to me. Especially if he has scoring touch.

Clearly this was a move to try and entice the Baltimore market.

The Caps site has a bunch of highlights of him uploaded. I suggest watching some of them if you're a little discouraged about the signing. He's a great 3rd liner who can pot around 10-15. Not bad. He'll drop the gloves, but he's not a great fighter or anything. Good team guy, great personality, and he'll go to the dirty areas for you. Scored a bunch of different ways last season, driving hard to the net, sniping, one-timers, tip-ins. Like someone else said earlier, he's the jack of all trades.

Is it jumping the gun to project Crabb into a top 6 role? Al May suggested as such, and its not rocket science. Brouwer can move up and down the lineup. Ward only shows enough to move up if we can make the playoffs. That is his competition folks.

I boldly predicted Parise would replace Semin. No one knew it would be Crabb

Maybe he and Ribs make it work. Stranger things have happened in hock.

That's How McPhee will pitch it if we don't sign anyone else.

if this happens, i may jump on the 'Caps for the Draft Lottery' bandwagon.

Lamb#8-Ribs-Crabb putting the biscuit in the basquet, makes sense to me.

Really don't see why some of my fellow Leaf fans are so high on him.

I've always seen Crabb as a great 13th forward and not much more than that. He has the scoring touch to fill a need on a 2nd or 3rd line but seems to either become complacent or just fall back down to earth if left in the lineup for weeks at a time.

He's not exactly suited for a 4th line role. Not a big hitter or agitator. Decent defensively though. Can play on the PK.

Overall, a decent depth signing for you guys IMO.

He has the scoring touch to fill a need, and a need we will have. If he can score, maybe you answered your own question. Many hockey players become invisible for long stretches, its not a worry of mine.

Ribeiro is probably with you though, that's the guy they got to replace Semin?

he has a "scoring touch" the same way Keith Aucoin has a "playmaking touch"
