Alternatively, Gillis could just take Markstrom off Tallon's hands and use him as currency in a TDL deal with Toronto, New Jersey, etc.
I think that's a great trade for Van and Flo

at the title.

We're not trading Luongo to Toronto anyways, I fully believe he'll go to Florida now.

And with every option out there far less proven than Luongo it will be quite amusing to see how Leafs handle their goalie situation next year. Quite amusing indeed.

No from Vancouver. Tanev is considerably better than Franson and a better partner with Ballard. I want no pair of moving him unless he is packaged for an upgrade in the top six, which MacArthur is not.

I know he gets a lot of flack for his personality but I for one LOVE it! When you watch bits like that for TSN you really have to think he is behind @strombone1.

Unfortunately most Fla fans have Huberdeau, Gudbranson, Kulikov, Petrovic, Bjugstad, and Howden pegged as untouchables.

No thank you.
MacArthur > Raymond. He outproduces him offensively and has as many hits in the last 2 years as Raymond has in the last 4.
And what makes tanev so much better than Franson? Franson is bigger, more physical and and better offensively.

Tho that would have little to do with a Luongo trade.

Are they a better team with Lu or with Theadore and that 5.2 spent somewhere else.
I think that a great goalie would be more instrumental to making the playoffs than a couple of 2.5M players. If the Panthers want to roll the dice on a Theo repeat, go ahead. But this is a big year for them, they need to build on last year to keep any new fans they picked up on board. It also can't hurt that they are bringing back a player that both wants to be there and who was great when he was there.

Pretend it was last year: Sturm and Samuelsson or Luongo? If you have a better available duo that they can add I am all ears.

Raymond is better in the PK and faster.

Tanev does not make any mistakes in his own zone, and has good chemistry with Ballard.

I don't normally do proposals, but Leaf fans, how about:

Bozak and a mid-tier but promising prospect defenseman (Blacker/Percy) plus a 2nd or 3rd rounder (2013).

For Luongo.

Leafs give up a core player, but a replaceable one, and can look to trade or FA for a replacement. Kadri and/or Colborne notwithstanding.

Rationale: IMHO, Gillis will want someone who genuinely fills a need. And it just makes sense.

===============

From Florida, something similar:

Goc + Robak (and a pick) + Theodore (makes sense cap-wise)

Tanev doesn't panic.
He's a smooth skater who fits in very well into the Canucks system.
He pairs well with Ballard.
He's defensively responsible - a trait AV loves.
He was so trusted that AV put him with Hamhuis as our shutdown pairing.
His offense is non-existent so his salary will always be reasonable.

If Tallon is saying that, than that would be posturing IMO. Howden & Petrovic are not in the same category as Huberdeau, Gudbranson, Kulikov, and Bjugstad.

Chris Tanev as a rookie didn't need to be sheltered, has great defensive positioning and awareness, is calm and smooth and makes good decisions. Franson needs to be babysat, he was 7th in time on ice in Nashville and only played the PP and against weak lines, he can't be out against good competition. He was a healthy scratch in favour of Komisarek and luke Schenn when he was playing his worst. Franson is unreliable in his own zone and all that evidence proves my point. Tanev is a defenseman that knows how to play the position and was even on our top pairing in the playoffs.

Top pairing in playoffs vs healthy scratch in Toronto on a terrible defensive team and behind Shane O'Brien in ice time in Nashville the year before. Hmmmm what separates them

I've been following strombone1, whether it's him or not, don't care it's hilarious.

Yes my family and I used to go to Pizza Time weekly, that was our italian restaurant long before Luongo showed up. Really good food, though they always wanted to charge for drink refills (soda or tea) but was fun to hear them yell at each other as they cooked.

It used to have some Panthers stuff on the walls...but now it's got Canucks (big surprise right?). I know of at least 2 locations, but there's probably more by now.

Both stats and icetime support that assertion.

I also think Howden or Petrovic should be moveable, along with a 1st and either Theodore or Upshall, with our 2nd going the other way.

Essentially, either

Howden/Petrovic + 1st + Upshall/Theodore

or Kadri + 1st + Connolly/Lombardi

for Luongo + 2nd.

I doubt Tanev is going anywhere.

He's our only regular guy (#5 on the depth chart) making less than $4MM.

And that's not including Ballard, who makes $4.2 MM.

He's our Gunnarson.

The real crux for the Panthers is the following:

- They don't want to lose any top tier prospects
- They're technically set in goal with Theodore, Clemmensen, and Markstrom behind them
- Any goalie acquisition means trading Theodore, and he has a NTC, and he would rather stay in South Florida as he's basically a starter (plus he had a good season here).

Tallon has been quoted stating that Gillis is in the driver seat, i.e. to get Tallon interested. I don't think Tallon is going to really ever close the door on getting Luongo but they're not going to actively pursue him from what he's said.

He's a hell of a lot closer to Gunnarson than Franson.
