Offseason Thread Part V: We're Comfortable With Our Defense

However, the one thing I disagree with is that there's NO problem at all playing Welsh on the second line. However, my problem with that doesn't come from not believing Welsh could do it, I think he'd be fine in that role, if not necessarily as productive as a guy like OJokinen. My problem comes from this absurd idea that the Staals should play on the same line. Welsh should NOT be the 2C next year, if only because JStaal SHOULD. While the potential is there for him to fail on the second line right off the bat, I think his style of play is PERFECT to break into the NHL on the third.
It's a good thing fans don't make the lines then and there's a coach for that. Muller has already said that the brothers would play together. Skins/Finns will remain, and Welch has a great opportunity to take that 3C spot.

I'm not sure where we have gotten Welch playing as the 2nd line center if the brothers play together.

I've seen multiple people reference Muller saying the brothers would play together, so obviously I missed something; where did he say that?

I think our only hope is that Coach Kirk is really the major difference maker for this team.

Maybe, maybe not. But I think it's better than most experts, like you, are giving it credit for.

But what do I know, I've posted less than 4,500 times.

Then go to the video entitled Kirk Muller on Jordan Staal Trade.

I don't get the inferiority complex. If I come across as a know-it-all, or "expert," or whatever, I'm sorry, I'm really not. Since joining these boards all it's been is a constant realization process that I have very little hockey knowledge at all.

Again, if you're continually trying to get under my skin for simply asking you a question and expecting an answer, it seems petty.

As for my post count, dunno how it's relevant at all.

I think I'm done responding to you on this particular topic. You seem to be taking things bizarrely personally, and I'm not really sure what I've done to make you mad, but whatever it is I apologize. Unless I'm simply the victim of a VERY impressive troll job.

Hopefully how great the Carolina organization is has come up during Sanguinetti and Bobby Ryan's week-long hangout.

Ryan would be great, but Anaheim's apparently looking for, at least, a 2nd line C back. Of which we have none available.

Sangs and Ryan are golfing. Maybe when Sangs beats him, he'll make a push about how "You'll always have a long offseason to practice if you come to Carolina".

Not sure why Sangunetti would say great stuff about us. Charlotte maybe...not Raleigh as he hasn't seen much of it except from the bench..

I will be fine with this trade if it includes anybody not named Staal, Skinner, Faulk, Ward, or Murphy. Sadly, this won't be the case. Considering that Faulk is regarded as a franchise dman, Murphy will most likely be the one to go in a trade for Nash. I am against that because, I too, believe that Nash isn't worth our best prospect+++. Looking back at the Staal trade, the only advantage of trading for him now is that we didn't have to go into a bidding war during the 2013 free agency. It was probably a smart move too, because Staal might have chose a better team for more money. We didn't have to lose our best defensive prospect for Staal, so I doubt we should do that for Nash.

Speaking of Babe Winkelman's son, I'm anxious to see us trade for Ontario native Sam Gagner when we sign a 9th defenseman.

Tripp seems to believe the deal won't include Skinner, Faulk or Murphy. He did hint that it might include multiple picks though.

Of course, that may have just been on the offer that JR's apparently thrown out there already.

People who are complaining about the brothers line in denial about how much better S11 is than S12 as a Center.

That's nice to hear and I would approve, but since when did Tripp's beliefs become reliable?

Eh, he's better connected than anyone on this board. And it's been oddly quiet on the news front today. Especially how active Luke, Chip, etc. were yesterday.

Found this interesting read on twitter

Also, a line of Staal//Staal//Nash would be hilarious, all three of them are 6'4" and Eric is the lightest at 205. Even Chara would become a basket case trying to defend that on the power play.

I still think the Staal's should centre seperate lines but we'll see I guess. Skinner//Jokinen//Ruutu has worked out allright in the past.

Also, I'd like to keep Faulk if I could, but as good as me may turn out to be, I'd trade Murphy in a heartbeat for Rick Nash or Bobby Ryan.
