He definitely has the potential, no denying that. He makes great individual plays with the puck and does create offense. He is by FAR the best passer on our team. His outlet passes are always on the mark. Would be nice to have another player beside him to help shoulder the load. haha. Our defense is so bad right now.

This seems to be talked about a lot lately, but it's not a Sacco thing. Right handed defenseman are almost never switched to their off side. Right handed D used to be hard to find, so the lefties were always the ones asked to switch growing up and in pros. They have a lot more experience, which is important since there is quite an adjustment period. The righties usually have little to no experience on their off side.

I've played hockey since I was 4. This is not true at all. Everyone has a preference and as kids right D played the left side just as often as the opposite. It's very much a Sacco thing.

Would like to know his sources. I suggested 4.5 on Twitter and maybe he's considering me a source.

This is an interesting topic. I also played from a very young age for a long time, and I played defense almost exclusively. And while I was quite open to play either side, if I played against a really tough forechecking/cycle team, I wanted to be on the left side (I'm left handed), so my defensive zone clear forehand was along the defensive boards. Against less aggressive teams, I didn't care. Other players were very hardcore about which side they played. It's different for different players.

As a LH defenseman, playing the right side is much easier. The one exception is that it sucks to try to clear off the backhand.

"I have to believe the new deal will be something on the order of $3-5 million a year. I’ll guess something like four years, $18 million."

$3-5 million is a damn big range. :-)

The number sounds pretty reasonable though.

Did he really just say between 3 and 5 million? The guy is a genius..

I would go as far as saying it will be between 4 and 5 million. Anyone wants me as a beat writer?

4yrs 18 M would be fine. Still don't like the term.

Would have prefered 6 yrs 30 M or even 8 yrs 42 M

As a LH I never liked playing the left side because I was always a one hand on the stick guy, and always felt that your free hand is less valuable on the left side.

So you'd rather have one hand on the stick on the RIGHT side and give up the middle...?

What level did you play at?

Someone can correct me if I'm forgetting one, but I don't believe the Avs have given a contract longer than 5 years to anyone in all the time they've been in Colorado.

Dater: Just a hunch that the Johnson contract will be 4 or 5 years in the ballpark of 2-9 million a year.
He was born to do this.
