He's a good hockey player with skill and (recovering) speed. These days, you don't get to the show if you aren't one. And he scored some some clutch goals and occasionally even gave effort. But more often than not, the ending was anti-climatic.
He did give added meaning to the term "puck hog". And no one could make Thomas Vanek irrelevent on the ice like Derek could
I sure as heck don't recall any opponents shaking in their boots that they had to face Derek Roy and the Buffalo Sabre's that night.
So while I wish him luck, I hate Dallas as much as I hate Philly (and Boston) and feel the two (Dallas and Derek) deserve each other. (It will be interesting to see who he's centering... surely not Jamie Benn....?)
I'd never ever wish bad luck on a player but sure am glad he's out of the Sabre organization.
Never was much of a "fan" per se. Just kind of tolerated his existence on the team. Then I found out he is a Nickleback fan and wanted him traded asap. He's a nice guy with a douchey exterior(I've been told this by multiple sources independent of each other) so I don't wish him bad luck. Just... fade away.
The time had come for both sides to move on, I'll never forget the game he had against Ottawa. Best of luck to the girls in Dallas that he'll be all over.
Thanks for playing, Roysie. You had your moments, and I might even miss you a bit when I see you in the Dallas jersey for the first time. Regardless, it was certainly the right move, and I think both sides will benefit equally from the split.

Buffalo plays at Dallas March 23rd (only meeting this year), assuming the schedule actually plays out (i.e. no lockout screwing things up).
Thanks for all the good times Derek, Best of Luck in Dallas
His phone interview made him sound pretty upset, a little shook up, makes sense though.
Favorite memories
3. OT goal on Nurminen for Atlanta, He juggled it, ITS IN!!!!!!!
2. Rookie year falls to the ice and dangles around a few senators
1. Playoff Game 1 against Ottawa and his performance
Over 500 games and 400-plus points as a Sabre. Not too shabby for a second-round pick, most of whom never even become average players. Roy certainly developed into more than that. I wish him the best with Dallas.
Those videos actually made me a little sad. I liked Roy for 95 percent of the time he was here, but the last year showed that he (and the team) needed to move on.
Not that I expect he will ever read this, but:
Best of luck, Derek. Sorry about that time I clapped you on the back at 2 a.m. in a bar. I still like telling people about the time Derek Roy turned around and almost punched me. (I could take you, just sayin'.)
Time to give the team over to the young core, I say. Myers has to get one if he's your guy.
Too soon, imo. We can role with 2 As for a little while. Myers is already a young kid with a lot of pressure on him to perform -- no need to add more expectations/responsibilities to him by giving him a letter this early in his career.
There was a time in the preseason, maybe 2005 or 2006, where it looked for all the world that Derek Roy was going to turn into the player Claude Giroux is now. Put up some absurd numbers like 14 points in 4 or 5 games or something. Just flat dominated.
For whatever reason, it never carried on. My monitors will feel better without my fist impressing them every friggin power play while Derek is passing the puck to the opponents from the half-wall.
For all the **** we gave him, he really could be an exciting player. And while I probably won't miss him, I wish him all the best, even if it is in Dallas.
I liked him, his production from 2006 to 2011 was good, he just had a bad last year. I hope he'll get over it and will have a good season in the sunny west.
Thank you Derek, always felt that the hate you received was exaggerated, you were a very good player for us over the last seven years and Dallas will get a great Top-Six-Center!
