Devils defenseman (Tallinder/Greene/?) to get moved?

Thread as requested by a Devils fan:

Quote:
The Devils now have 8 NHL caliber D-men on our roster

Zidlicky - Salvador
Tallinder - Larsson
Greene - Volchenkov
Fayne - Harrold

One of them will HAVE to move. We just resigned Harrold so it wouldn't be him. Tallinder and Greene seem expendable to the Devils and was wondering what other peoples opinions are?

I bet Tallinder/Volchenkov, one of them are going to get moved.

Edit: Didn't any of them have offseason surgery after a long playoff run? If so, it's a good idea to keep them all under contract and move one out when they're all healthy.

Greene/Tallinder likely to be moved to make room for Larsson. Would assume it would be Tallinder over Greene.

Also, Fayne is injured and will miss the start of the season so I wouldn't really expect anything to happen until he returns full time to the lineup. We'll likely just go into the season with 7 dmen and Harrold warming the bench.

Don't see Greene going anywhere. Tallinder is the only one possibly moving, but even then who knows. Getting the feeling they'll start Larsson out in the AHL and use Harrold as the popcorn maker.

Volchenkov has NMC or at the very least a NTC. Going nowhere soon.

I could see them being moved, or even Volchenkov based on what happens with Parise.

What would be the value for Tallinder? He missed a good chunk of last year due to blood clots. But he played a solid 6 games in the SCF.

What teams would be in the market for him?

I'd like to fantasize about a first overall given who they've been thrown around lately, but it's not exactly likely.

I think I would move Volchenkov. He is the least mobile of the candidates and the highest paid.

Don't get me wrong, guy is a warrior, but stuck out like a sore thumb in stretches during the playoffs.

Does have a NTC.

Volchenkov has an NTC, Greene and Fayne were on the Devils' de facto top pairing last season, Zidlicky doesn't have much value and he's old, Salvador and Harrold were just signed, and Larsson is going nowhere. I think it must be Tallinder.

Which is ironic because he's their best defenseman.

Pittsburgh would, for sure.

Doubt Lou would want to go down that road right now, though. Heh.

Tallinder or Volch? Cause neither of them are.

Salvador is probably our best

I disagree with you there. He's a solid defenceman, but not the Devils' top option.

8 defenceman isn't really that crazy. There are bound to be injuries. Some Western teams go though 10-12 in a season. Some teams want 8-10 NHL caliber guys going into camp. But there are lots of teams that could use some defensive depth should they want to move one.

Who is then?

When he isn't hurt, Tallinder plays the most even strength minutes on the team vs. the highest quality of competition and usually comes out ahead in corsi. He's a pretty good PKer too and isn't completely lost on the point on the PP.

Volch loved Ottawa and they loved him. Would he waive to go back or is is cap too high for them to consider?

Tallinder is a good option but doesn't he have a NTC as well?

I say trade both if we can.

I was thinking more Sam Gagner, but then the Devils don't exactly have the need of a top 6 centre.

Oilers would definitely be interested in Tallinder, Greene and Volchenkov. Probably a couple prospects. Hamilton and Reider? Two prospects, one started decently but has slid a bit and the other has significantly improved on his draft year.

Ryan Martindale, Alex Plante, Curtis Hamilton and Tobias Reider I can see being available to trade.

Didn't you guys keep this year's first overall pick because your prospect cupboard is getting empty? The Oilers have a ton of guys now that could turn out to be gems. I can see a few of them being traded to improve the team now. It would also allow the Barons to focus more on the prominent prospects.

This is assuming that the Devils want to trade a defender for prospects.

Picks or prospects sounds good to me. I think getting rid of cap space is a good idea for us.

Henrique could play LW and Gagner center. But Hemsky wouldn't be bad but his price can't be too high due to injuries. Devils would look like

Parise (FINGERS CROSSED)-Zajac-Kovalchuk
Elias-Henrique-Hemsky
Zubrus-Josefson-Clarkson
Gionta-Carter-Bernier

two season's ago I would agree with you, last year, leading up to his injury he was terrible. Not saying the injury couldn't have had anything to do with it, but he always seemed to be in the wrong place and the wrong time. Maybe it's was just bad luck.... it kinda seemed like it at certain points.

Truth is, Devils have a lot of 2 - 4 defensemen, with the hope that Larsson can become there number 1... Tallinder may be able to fetch something decent in this market.... I would definitely be interested to hear what other teams would be offering.

I'm sure value-wise a deal could be made to get Hemsky but as a biased Hemsky fan I'd like to avoid trading him.

I think him for Volchenkov would be something my brain says yes to and my heart says no to. Which is as good as it gets from me
