Wow! Sherman must use some kind of jedi mind trick in negotiations with RFA's. $3.75M a year for four years? That's a steal for EJ. I'm shocked he would take any less than 4, especially on that term.

EJ's thoughts:

ďEvery team Iíve been on it seems weíve been decimated by injuries on defensemen and, as the saying goes, you can never have too many defensemen. So I think what management has done is excellent. When you have depth like that it creates internal competition amongst all the defensemen and that brings up the level of play even more. I think itís a great thing and I know itís going to be a tough competition for ice time come training camp and Iím excited about it.Ē

ďItís a great group, and not just on defense. Everybody is tight from the goalies on out. Thatís typically what happens with a young team. Itís like a brotherhood and we like to hang out with each other and play with each other, and thatís one of the reason why I wanted to sign a deal with a little bit of term on it. I want to grow with these guys.Ē

Wow. I hope EJ doesn't feel like he's getting screwed here...

I wonder what negotiations are like with Sherman? He seems to be great at getting the $ to be lower.

Braden Carlzner is hilarious. The guy may actually have a bigger boner for Neuvirth than RECsGuy does for Giguere.

Initial thought on EJ's contract is that it's pretty nice, though I'll need to look at some specifics to make a true opinion. Good to get him signed to some term, at minimum.

If I'm not mistaken EJ and Dutch have the same agent (Pat Brisson, Crosby's agent), don't they?

I would be a bit worried about that too, but from that quote above you it sounds like he's happy with it.

If EJ grows into even close to the kind of defenseman we hope for, this is gonna be a crazy good deal in a year or two. EVen if he doesn't grow his game, and just stays at the same level, I still think it's a good deal. $4M to $4.2 M is about what I'd personally put his value at right now. Can't wait to see where's he's at in year three and four of this deal.

Sherman "I will trade your rights to Columbus if you don't sign"

RFA player "Ok where do I sign?"

*EJ walks in, takes a seat, grabs an apple off the desk*

EJ: "Well Sherm, I'd like 5 years for $25 million."

GS: "Get out of my chair, that apple is coming out of your salary, and you're getting Hejda money."

EJ: "Well, um..."

GS: "And it's Mr. Sherman. Now sign and get the hell out of my office."

I see Shermy with a Mr. Burns look and attitude when it comes to the RFA table.

The RFA Whisperer strikes again. If they made a movie of Sherman's negotiations, I would actually pay to watch.

Holy crap. That is ridiculous. Say what you will, but this cap hit way more than makes up for overpaying Jones a little. I was afraid we were gonna see somethin' in the 5 mil range.

Even the stupid people on the main boards will agree that this is a steal.

I think this shows Ej's loyalty/team first mentality just as much as it shows Sherman's negotiating skills.
