I have to think Doan is definetly are next move. We're willing to wait until next week to go after him.
If we are in the race for Suter, and NOTHING has indicated that to me, unless I missed something, than color me surprised.
Either way, I've been happy with what this team has done so far this offseason...and it's only going to get better as we have room to add contracts and we can get rid of a few, hopefully, in Robidas and Morrow.
I'd do it, but does this mean the Doan speculation is off base?
I think it'd just get some butts in the seat to have the legend of Jaromir Jagr come to Dallas for a bit.
I hope it's Doan, but seeing that Jagr is still potent, I wouldn't mind seeing him for 1 season. With Doan, we get prospective leadership for the next 3-4 years, but I don't know if he can last that long with his style of play. I'd want him to keep producing @ at least 20-20.
Then we'd have to find a way to deal Morrow with a NTC, he's too expensive for the 4th line. As mentioned by other posters, we should also try to strengthen our defense, rather than spending too much money for forwards.
Not sure how much our internal cap limit is, but we shall not forget we still have to sign Benn, Larsen, Bachman.
I'm not a fan of bringing in Doan putting aside my dislike for him. He doesn't appear likely to sign a stopgap type deal. He's probably going for his last contract here. You'd be making an older player part of your core going forward, which is not what Nieuwendyk seems to want to do having identified the core as Benn and Loui. Whitney, Roy, and potentially Jagr are all short-term commitments at the moment.

I wouldn't say that about Roy, unless he really doesn't work out for us.
I agree with Piqued. I've never been impressed enough with Doan to make him part of our core for 3-5 years.
Jagr I'm all over like white on rice though.
I agree at some point we need to look at the defense though, or at least the 3rd line for some defensive help. Our biggest problem last year remained goals against. With Ott gone our dreams of an elite checking line got hurt, and the defense is still full of smallish puckmovers unless they trade Robidas.
Trade Robi for a 2nd, just to clear space, and we're looking at a d that can get the job done plenty well.
Daley-Larsen
Dillon-goligoski
Fistric-Rome
Something along those lines would be plenty capable of defending in front of lehtonen, especially considering how our forward lines look and how much they might have possession.
I don't think Robidas on the 3rd pairing would be the worst thing in the world.
Maybe,
Goose-Daley
Dillon-Larsen
Fistric-Robidas
Rome
I think the problem with that is that if Robidas is still on the roster the coaching staff will have the tendency to overplay him as they have over the past few years. If he is traded, then that crutch isn't there and the players who should be getting more minute might finally get them.

I feel the same way. If Robidas is on the team he is very likely to be fed huge minutes against top competition.

Just like Rome would get top 4 minutes in Vancouver, and Ott would get top 6 minutes here when he doesn't have the talent to make the most of it anymore.
Unless we're replacing Robidas with Bouwmeester (please Joe get it done)...
dont see why youd get eaten alive for saying that.
Never heard anyone say flat out that our defense sucks. Just people posting what they would be "ok" with. I'm not ok with any combination of D pairings I've seen in a long time. Good stuff on offense, but we are in desperate need of at least a #1 or #2 defender, something I can't remember having since Robidas of 3/4 years ago(as a #2).
