So ... Regier WAS upset. I take that as being against letting go of Briere and Drury.

So who was all for it?

Well he could have been upset at Drury, since he did screw them. They did like to tell us how bad Drury was playing in New York. Plus the Vanek thing.

In terms of contracts, Regier hasnt shown to be very good IMO, even with Pegula so far.
Assuming you're referring to the Leino and possibly Stafford contracts? I'd tend to agree on the Leino contract although it could still be turned around. But I think overall things have looked pretty good on that front since Pegula got here. The Ehrhoff deal and Myers extension are both examples of positive moves by Darcy.

You give Drury a similar deal.

You never re-sign Kotalik, Kalinin, and Connolly. Right there was like $7 million a year. I think they even gave 38 year old Teppo Numminen a deal.

The money was there. Everything that happened after the season started, well it was too late. Drury and Briere both putting up crazy numbers, it was all over.
What makes you think BTG would have OK'd 5x5 for Briere prior to arbitration when the front office never thought Briere would get $5M in arbitration?

And given the chatter before the decision, practically nobody thought Briere would get that much.

Regier mis-judged that. But, practically everyone mis-judged that one.

He hasn't signed many contracts under Pegula so far.
Myers - good. Got him locked up long-term early, and 5.5 is a reasonable cap hit for a player of his talent. Especially when you realize Wideman is getting only .25 less than that.
Ehrhoff - structured well to yield only a 4mil cap hit. Brings a lot to the team, good signing.
Leino - We all know it's an awful signing for Buffalo, so yeah.
John Scott - 1yr/600k, pretty much an insignificant contract. Might help the team, might make no impact.
And then some ELCs, which aren't really much to judge on.

OR it's possible Regier was against both leaving but Quinn and Golisano didn't want to pay them what they wanted.

3 out of 4 ain't bad.

Especially when Regier had extra pressure from above to make a noteworthy UFA signing last summer as Black has talked about with regards to the Leino signing.

If anything, Regier has proven to be a good soldier who does what his bosses want in situations like that.

And I'll never kill the guy for doing what his boss wants to help keep his job as the team's GM.

People that say he should have quit out of principle, well....

I read I guess half of it then I realized that he wasn't going to stop rambling and refused to waste anymore time. I don't disagree with him, for the most part but he seems to like to drum up drama where there isn't or it has died years ago.

Plus, I actually read a whole Bucky column without having to once.

You didn't facepalm once? I facepalmed pretty much every paragraph.
