Clearly their replacement for Suter.

I dont think DW is the kind of GM who puts all his eggs in one basket. Wonder if he is in any serious talks with a different team(s) along the lines of a similar trade. i.e a fast top-6 player for Clowe/Pavs.

I dont see how more teams would not be interested in Clowe/Pavs as they bring a lot to the table.

*Cough* Ehrhoff, Michalek, Cheechoo, Heatley... *splutter*

I'm just messing.

But in all seriousness, you make a good point - Carolina is willing to pony up for a quality forward. Throwing everything and the kitchen sink to get Nash might be idiotic without seeing what that proposed package could get elsewhere first. Overpaying for a name?

No, no, I know it's Mike...I just really liked his game in the brief time he was called up and thought he'd be an asset in the future. It's not so much that I think we NEED him as much as I just like the guy and think he's just the type you want in the system. I still wish him the best, of course, and maybe he'll have a better chance to play in Nashville, who knows.

For me what is more shocking is the following:

Garrisson: 4.6 million per 6 years (27 years old)

Salvador: 3.16 3 years (36 years old!!)

Colorado made a good deal for a good young defenseman...worst case is he will be a solid 2nd pair for the next 4 years

Again, comparing an RFA with UFA's. If Johnson was on the open market he could have got $4.5-$5M easy, maybe even more.

Garrison took a bit of a hometown discount with Vancouver. That was where he always wanted to play.

Ahh good point...didn't notice that somehow...still think Garrisson might have gotten an inflated contract that he won't live up to...contracts over 4 years I think are just really risky, but I'm not a GM...

I will just return to daydreaming a happy world with puppies and clouds and where Semin signs with the Sharks....

I think EJ's contract is a steal. He's a good #2 playing the #1 role on a bad team, but I'd bet he'll be a legit #1 by the end of thia contract. His play has steadily improved since he got to Colorado.

I went to tsn and saw Moore and thought Dominic ... not surprised to see Mike leave. Needs to leave here to have a chance at cracking an NHL lineup.

#RedWings still have offer out to UFA F Zach Parise, but if can't get him, will go hard after UFA F Shane Doan July 9.

Detroit Free Press ‏@freepwings
#RedWings initial offer to D Ryan Suter was $80M 13 years, now up to $90 M. Team wants to keep cap # reasonable - preferably under $7 M.

Ha, no chance we land Suter at that price.

the only way we get Suter is if Boyle gets traded first.

I'd offer him $65m over ten years frankly, but no more than that. Max cap of 7.5m, max term of 10 years, but not both at the same time.

Yup, that would be ideal.

What I want most is for him NOT to go to Detroit.

That's the right contract for him, he should not be getting more than 7.5.

I keep wondering if the new CBA is gonna put an end to loaded contracts. There should also probably be a restriction on the number of years a player can sign for. Maximum 8 year contracts with no larger than a 2 million dollar difference between the highest salary and lowest salary in the duration of the contract. Something like that.

Staal entered the same year as MEV, and would have been UFA the same time as Vlasic, so that's a better comparable. Crosby being UFA next year just means the Pens bought a year of UFA in the contract he has now. I'm not sure how LTIR factors into the games towards an accrued season, but I would imagine it doesn't work against the player if he's injured for half the year.

@HeleneStJames: DET GM Ken Holland met with Ryan Suter today. No decision imminent. Probably won't come before Thursday. #RedWings
