yep. i'd offer Doan something in the range of 15M over 3 years. 5M per year. don't know if i'd go too much higher than that. definitely not more than 3 years anyway.

Hearing that Jaromir Jagr has agreed to one-year, $4.5-million deal with the Dallas Stars

Jaromir Jagr is heading for Dallas, where the makeover of a team that has missed the playoffs four years in a row continues.

The Stars announced Tuesday that they have signed the 40-year-old free agent forward to a one-year contract worth $4.5 million.

Jagr, the eighth-highest scorer in NHL history, returned to the League last season after three seasons in Russia to play for the Philadelphia Flyers. He scored 19 goals and 35 assists in 73 games with the Flyers in 2011-12.

Jagr is the second 40-year-old to join the Stars this week. On Sunday, they added left wing Ray Whitney, a Second-Team All-Star in 2011-12, by signing him to a two-year, $9 million deal.

"Jaromir Jagr is, without a doubt, one of the best players in the history of this league, and he demonstrated last season that he remains incredibly skilled, productive and valuable,” general manager Joe Nieuwendyk said in a statement. “We see him fitting into our top two lines and contributing heavily to our offensive attack. We’re very excited about adding a player of Jaromir’s caliber to our club.”

IMO if Jagr is gone, Semin or Parise are a must, not a want.

I guess our options have been reduced to......

Parise
Doan
Semin
A. Kostitsyn
Ryan (via trade)
Nash (via trade)

or we could move Voracek and Simmonds both up one line.

Don't want Semin anywhere near this team. I'd rather give up the pieces needed to get Ryan/Nash then sign him.

Wow. 4.5. That is a lot of cash for a guy that fizzled out in the second half of the season.

I'd add Peter Mueller to that list.

1st post updated with TSN link:

Quote:
The Dallas Stars have agreed to terms on a one-year $4.5 million contract with free agent forward Jaromir Jagr.

The NHL's eighth-highest career scorer, Jagr returned to the league last season to play for the Philadelphia Flyers. He socred 19 goals and 35 assists in 73 games with the Flyers in 2011-12.

The 40-year-old Czech winger had been away from the league for three seasons prior to 2011, playing with Avangard Omsk of Russia's Kontinental Hockey League.

Rumors of his desire to return to the NHL ignited after an impressive showing at the 2011 IIHF World Hockey Championships, where he scored nine points in nine games. He signed a one-year, $3.3 million deal with the Flyers, despite reports that he was close to returning to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Title edited, as well.

It's always been about the money for Jagr. He's terrible at managing his money, so it wouldn't surprise me if he's broke.

I'm not going to hold that against him though.

I think they over payed him. I loved having him on the team last year but for 4.5 million is too much imo.

Damn it you quoted me before I could finish editting

Not a bad idea if we move up Voracek and Simmonds, risky because of injury problems. This line-up doesn't have the same fire power as last season though.

Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Schenn-Briere-Simmonds
Read-Couturier-Mueller

There's still a very good chance Jagr still winds up in the playoffs this year if he stays healthy.

If the Stars are good, he can get in that way.

If the Stars are bad, they will surely deal him to a contender at the deadline.

The only way I see him missing the playoffs is if Stars are a playoff bubble team, decide to not to be sellers, and then narrowly fail to get in.

If that were the case he would have stayed in Russia. 4.5 is what they pay water boys over there. I am happy for him but glad he moved on. After watching him run out of steam in the playoffs that was ugly. But that is Dalla's problem now not ours.

Glad they didn't match the Stars' offer to him. Jagr is a luxury, not a necessity, on this team. It's money better spend elsewhere. I'd be surprised if he gives Dallas $4.5 million worth of production this year.

Well, this just proves to the Jagr fanboys that Jagr is indeed, not a money ho. He would even go to the pits of Dallas for that money...

But that aside, Let's all gather to say goodbye to Jagr..He truly followed his money..I mean, er, heart.

9. Jaromir Jagr
KNOWN FOR: Owing $950,000 on Internet gambling debts.
COMPLEX SAYS: In 2003, SI reported that Jaromir Jagr owed $500,000 to the CaribSports gambling website based in Belize. Jagr also admitted to paying off $950,000 in online gambling debts but denied having a gambling problem. That same year, the IRS came after the right winger for over $3 million in unpaid taxes. Moral to this story: Don't **** with Uncle Sam's or gambling creditors' loot. They will get you—and prolly repo your fur coat, too!
