Well, with Schultz, the money was pretty much non-negotiable outside of bonuses, so it came down to fit.
They had to whittle their options down too, as 26 teams reportedly had legitimate interest.
He listened to presentations from teams and make his decision based mostly on them, as he likely didn't really have a good idea of how some of the teams play.
Even with all of that, he took all of two days from the time he listened to presentations to the time he signed with the Oilers.

With Parise and Suter, the money is negotiable and only so many teams are legitimate suitors (whether it's fit or money), plus they are veterans in the league and know much more about how they'd fit on certain teams than a guy who has never played a game.

The market also wasn't clogged up by Schultz, but it is by Parise and Suter.

A final decision on Shane Doan's destination for the upcoming season could exceed the July 9 deadline set by the current Coyotes captain.

Doan is expected to start negotiations next Monday, but there is no timeline for when he will pick and sign with a team, Doan's agent Terry Bross explained.

"What people need to understand about this guy is it would have been very easy for me (on Sunday) to taken some of the teams I've spoken to and said, 'OK, let's get something done," said Bross, who began representing Doan in October 2011. "(Doan) especially said to me, 'Listen, we're not taking offers. You can tell teams I'm interested, but we're not even taking offers until we know what's happening at home.'"

Doan's camp feels it will have a clearer understanding of the Coyotes possible future in Glendale by July 9 because that's when the city says signatures are due for a possible referendum on prospective owner Greg Jamison's lease agreement.

Two Glendale residents have been working on a petition to add an item on the November ballot in hopes of squashing the deal with Jamison.

Doan hasn't ruled out a one-year deal, but that option isn't as appealing as a multi-year contract.

Second, Portzline says he’s “been told repeatedly” that Howson has not demanded Chris Kreider, Ryan McDonagh or Derek Stepan when discussing a Rick Nash trade with the New York Rangers.

The Rangers have other prospects like JT Miller, Tim Erixon and Dylan McIlrath that could form part of a package with, say, Brandon Dubinsky and a first-round pick.

Yeah... but what it boils down to is people making a life choice .. It's 13 years compared to 2 years for Schultz. I understand the frustration of fans because of the so called "hold up" but c'mon no way do these guys need to take us fans sitting on HF Boards or Twitter into consideration.

Having said all that... I'm frustrated and antsy as well.

It's more than 2 years for Schultz. Edmonton is going to hold his rights in 2 years. Nevermind that he's dictating basically how his entire career is going to go.

So, Suter's agent says no decision today:

kausatoday No Suter decision today, says his agent, Neil Sheehy.

Zero news from Parise's camp.

They'll probably wait until Thursday with tomorrow being a holiday.

I can't see how suter won't sign that rediclous 13 xear/90 million dollar deal with detroit. It would be stupid not to accept that offer from a team like detroid who has never missed the playoffs the past 3 decades.

Seems like a good fit and insane money. Not sure if he's angling for 100 million or what...

I'm seeing were still one of the teams on Bobby Ryan....If we don't have a 2nd line center to send to them how about something bigger ?

Like maybe Vanek going to ANA for Ryan ? Maybe a blockbuster trade could be developing between us and them ?

Guess Jagr doesn't want to win a cup. Good for Roy, though.

Game over. Darcy, you failed. Best player is off the market and our team doesn't have him. Pathetic.

He could be a good fit for the Rangers. A bit of bottom 6 scoring.
