Jagr, Whitney, Parenteau, Jokinen. I'm not talking about elite UFA's in their prime, I'm talking about non 3/4 line role players. Blake had ties to the area, so It wasn't that difficult to land him.
Well to be fair, we have no idea how much interest any of those guys had in SJ, or how much interest DW has in them. Also Whitney probably HATES the Sharks with a passion, I know I would if I were in his shoes.

LOL they're missing out... life is good here in the bay area
if you're from Russia or anywhere else in Europe, I don't see what the big difference is between San Jose and somewhere like Detroit... your'e still in a completely different country and not going home any time during the season
In Detroit, you are still closer to Europe than SJ. Maybe not for you, but it matters for your family who comes to visit.
Even europeans like it in the Bay when they give it a chance (i.e., traded here). That's the problem: UFA's with no other connection here don't want to give it a chance. They just see it on a map and see the distance and look for something closer.
I'm waiting for the day that Asians from Asia can produce a Sidney Crosby-moto. Such a player would want to play in SJ/LA/etc over the East...

They are but it's not completely their fault. I feel the biggest reason why there isn't anyone interested in playing here is because there is no more Russian culture here in San Jose on the team like there once was. Having a fellow countrymen around can be very helpful for those guys in terms of adjusting to life. Detroit has that culture there and has maintained for a long time.
Sharks have a certain European flair like most teams do now but it's not an accident that the Russians have been weeded out and nobody from there is interested in playing here anymore. I'm sure from DW's vantage point, a lot of it stems from Korolyuk.

You're right, we can't assume they had any interest in San Jose. That means that you also can't assume the opposite.
These signings lend credence to the notion that $$/term are bigger motivators than contender status, area, travel, etc. Is that true for all? Of course not, but I have a hard time believing that Wilson is out making competitive offers to all the impact players only to be turned down on all of them.

there is more proof that he does give out good offers to prime players, but they turn it down for roughly the same thing in another city.
aka niedermyer, the sharks just didn't have another niedermyer on the team to draw his attention for the same amount.
So why are Sharks fans tuning in to the free agent frenzy? Is the consensus that we are looking to sign Shane Doan?
I would love it if the Sharks signed Doan, but it just feels like the Sharks aren't "flashy" enough for that kind of signing. I hope they aren't done with just Stewart and Burish though.
Well, this will light a fire under DW to get something done. After all, he did "promise" to improve the wing. The kicker is that we'll all probably hate what he does. Brace yourselves for a top 9 of:
Also, you have got to think that 4.5 will be the going rate for Doan, judging what Whitney and Jagr are getting.
Ah heck, problems solved:

In fact you've got a ton of people totally out of position, is that intentional?
Also, that defense is a downgrade over last season, losing Boyle with no replacement is going to hurt a team that already was pretty terrible in points by defense.

The previous top 9 is better then yours.
I do not want Semin. We have a soft enough top 6 as it is, so you trade Clowe and add a freaking pillow.
My ideal lineup is (accepting the fact Nash will come here, and Anahiem wont trade Ryan within division.)

Traded Clowe+Murray+Niemi(Bobrovsky ISNT the fix in net for them)+1st 2013 for Nash + 7th 2013
Offer sheet Nikolai Kulemin 3.00m/3 years. See how much Burke likes DW now. Kulemin is one Russian I wouldnt mind as he's got tons of heart and hustle and hes physical. Only costs us a 2nd in 2013 if he doesnt match. he can also PK
Sign Doan. With Marleau and Kulemin on his line, Doan's speed isnt as much an issue as the other 2 are both good skaters.
2m in cap room basically means 1m each for a spare forward and spare D, which can usually be had for <750k. So it works cap wise.
Jagr never struck me as someone who would mesh well on the Sharks. Not sure why, just a different vibe, I guess.
If the Phoenix situation doesn't reach more resolution, I can see Doan being an option for us. We're a contender in a location close enough to see family on a regular basis, and he seems like the kind of player DW would go after (though no ring, hmm...) He'd give us a second solid RW, so it would be interesting how that would change the look of our top 6.
I keep telling myself to be patient, Wilson has to have something up his sleeve... but gah, I am not liking the look of our current roster. (Could be because we're missing an entire line!)
