Proud to get the last post on the old thread...and a worthy post at that.

Anyway, I'm still curious to know how we're gonna reach the cap floor, if that is going to be an issue...?

If we absolutley had to add a contract to reach the floor the easiest way to do it would be to sign a seventh defenseman and let Boro play another year in Bingo.

Add a guy like Kent Huskins or Brett Clark, re-sign Daugavins and O'Brien and carry a full 23 man roster and we're there. Melnyk is happy because the payroll is low, management is happy because they can bring their prized prospects along at a comfortable pace and the fans are disappointed because it isn't sexy.

If the cap floor doesn't go down in the new CBA, we can easily get to the floor by buying out Alfie and giving him a new contract.

Yeah, Murray will have to wait and see what happens with the CBA then decide how to get to the cap floor.

I would recommend signing Dom Moore to a 1 year contract so we can claim our free 2nd round pick at the trade deadline.

Actually that's very interesting, I wouldn't have considered that. If he felt he may have more than a year left in him I could see that happening quite easily. I was liking the idea that we have to add another big piece just to get there. Way to burst my bubble!

From Friedman's 30 Thoughts from 2010-11 season.

9. A few other Capitals pointed out Alexander Ovechkin really pays attention to Arnott, but that's not what surprised them. "Even Semin listens," one said.

So the unsurprising action would have been for Semin to not listen to him, because that is typical of Semin.

The last two posts should be enough to give him a definite pass.

You see how Staal goes down and covers his head? That will be Dion Phaneuf next season, book it.

Not from one of our guys. Konopka and Carknet are gone.

I don't think grit is something we lack, despite what a lot of posters believe. We aren't the toughest team physically, but we certainly aren't push overs either. NY tried to push the team around, and the whole team pushed back. Carkner was obviously the stand out, but I can think of a few guys still on the team that would and could have done the same.

What is the biggest key I think going forward is adding offense to the top 6 and the back end. Karlsson and Spezza will be targeted big time this season, and the more offensive options the team has the better. Semin would help a lot, he's got the talent, and could thrive with Spezza, but the character issues are something that you have to gamble on. If there isn't a better option and we do have the cap space, we have nothing to lose, other than Melnyk's money.

lol He sounds pretty bitter. Why is he offended if Nash doesn't want to come here? There are 25 teams that he doesn't want to play for.

If Silfverberg and Zib make the team, that's $2,644,167 on the cap. Plus, JOB should sign for about 800-900k. That leaves us with around a couple million I think.

I imagine negotiating a lower cap floor is going to be a big priority for the owners in the CBA talks... maybe it won't be an issue?

That's my thinking too. There's gotta be a lot of teams in the same situation as us right now. That was my way of hoping for one more big signing, but I've kinda changed my mind since then, since a few different things could play out before the season starts.
