Shane Doan

I'm a bit surprised that he has not been talked about much more yet as a good option for us.

Yes, he is 35 ,but he is also a leader and I think his cycling style of play will fit in perfectly with our style. He is also excellent in the playoffs.

The other options all have big issues:
Nash - $7.8 cap hit
Ryan - $5.1 cap hit and I'm sure Ducks will want a big return
Semin - His run and gun style will not fit in well in NY. It will be Zherdev 2.0 but at a higher price tag
Parise - He is going to get over $6 mill for sure, if not $7.

So if we look at Doan, he made $4.5 last season. However, he only had 50 points and is 35. I believe that he is probably tired of playing his entire career for Phoenix without a sniff at the Cup. The Rangers can offer him a chance at that. Plus, we just signed another ex Coyote in Pyatt.

We could have some excellent lines with him:
Hagelin Richards Gaborik
Kreider Stepan Callahan
Dubinsky Anisimov Doan
Asham Boyle Pyatt

If we can get him for around $3-$3.5 mill for a year, I think it would be a great deal. He could be huge for us in the playoffs as we had a lot of top guys banged up(Gaborik, Callahan) and needed more secondary scoring.

I like Boyle over Anisimov

Me too. I have a soft spot for Dubinsky even thought he continues to devolve into an idiot/mindless hockey player in large stretches, but hes still better than Anisimov and Hagelin, right now, and he still needs to go the other way for salary.

I doubt Hagelin is what is holding up any potential deal anyway.
Hagelin isn't being traded! Neither is Anisimov for those who keep putting him in trade offers. Neither is Del Zotto, especially since we werent able to get Schultz.

As much as I like Erixon and believe he'll be equally as good as Mac truck (my own biased opinion call me crazy), if we get Rick Nash that's who the centerpiece will be - regardless of what his father did to get him here.

As for the sickos who say that Hagelin isn't holding up any potential trade, without him we lose the Ottawa series. Without him we aren't the 1st seed in the East. Without him our team becomes considerably slower and less energetic, no matter the fact that Kreider is on the team now (they don't play the same style of hockey).

You don't do that trade for Nash. You deal from strength. We don't have strength in that area. I don't care if you think Kreider and Fast will make up for Hagelin. His role is unique to our team and unique to most likely 28 other teams in the league. He's not being traded. That's the end of that.

By the way, it's funny what ownership changes will do to a team.

Last off season, Dallas wouldn't spend $7.5m to keep Richards. This off season, they've taken on $10.1m in salary and still have to resign Benn.

I think he would be a solid player on a line with Stepan and Callahan. Convert Callahan to LW (can he play LW?)

2 years 9m.

I disagree. I think Dubinsky's biggest issue remains not knowing what kind of player he is. If he ever fully realized his potential, he's a much more valuable player than Hagelin will ever be. That's partly on Dubi and partly on the coach.

You sound defensive. Good, you should.

Since its been widely reported who Sather (actually) wont trade, and you insist they wont trade Hagelin or Anisimov either, I'd love to know what multiple packages the Rangers submitted to Columbus.

Most likely prospect based.

Something like Dubinsky, Miller, Erixon, 1st.

AA and Hagelin would both go in a micro second in a Nash deal. At least they should

On the team. Bigger body. I think he will get better on faceoffs.

Agreed.

Hagelin's only benefit is his cheap price tag. But regarding upside? I'd bet theres higher upside in Dubinsky bouncing back then Hagelin replicating his regular season.

If Clark and Gorton have any say about who goes in the deal, it won't be either Miller or McIlrath.

If i had a choice i wouldn't trade either of them.

But you know Dubi needs to go in the trade because of cap reasons.

Doan would be a great addition, but he wouldn't fix our scoring problems. Plus he might kill the locker room. He's used to being a captain and it's not a good thing that him and Cally don't really get along.

Agreed but its not just ceiling. Its the type of game Hagelin offers. He's so fast. Thats not easily replaceable.

Cmon the guy is a profesional. He isnt 25. He's what 36? He's not going to kill a lockerroom.

They had a little shoving match during the Yotes@MSG game. Don't think it matters though.
