It was kind of fun having Jagr here, but he wasn't getting any younger, there was no reason to believe he'd either be healthier or have more stamina this year; he really looked gassed down the stretch and in the playoffs. Curious what his other offers were, but as usual Jagr took the most money and who cares how good the team is. Can't exactly blame him, but you'd think at this point, after having made what he's made, he'd weigh the chances of having even a decent team around him in the decision.
I'm kind of glad that he signed for so much with another team, because I was pretty torn about if I wanted him back with the Flyers. If he had signed somewhere for $3m I'd be second guessing the Flyers' ability/choice not to resign him. Now there's no doubt.
I feel a bit like this as well. It was great to have Jagr for a year, hopefully the kids paid attention. Unfortunately he ran out of gas before the playoffs began though, and that's where we needed him the most. When the rumours about him coming back for the same, or even a reduced, salary came out a few months ago, that would have been hard to turn for me had I been the GM. Even if I thought there was a shot at landing Parise.
Going to miss Jags. Watching him at practice was awesome. Always smiling and joking with the other players. Hope he does well in Dallas. I also hope Hartnell can continue playing like he did without him.
Going to miss Jagr but 4.5mil is a lot for a 41 year old, probably saving that cash for Voracek.
It's not the cash, so much as the Flyers can't guarantee him first line minutes and PP time. In Dallas, they can play him to death and make him happy. The growth of Voracek, Simmonds, Read and the eventual need to move Briere back to RW is a logjam there.
Now, there WOULD be room to add Doan. We could fit him in! And if we get Ryan, one of those guys is going in the deal.
