Agreed, the fact that they keep blasting Semin just makes me think that he's a guy the Rangers should really go after.

Why not? We get bashed in the media anyways, may as well add Semin to the group...

Oh, and when you add in that he's the dynamic scorer we need, well, that helps too.

All the so called analysts. Visit the site tsn.ca. Mac, pierre, etc...

They all chimed in calling him a head case, a bad team mate, etc..

They started pouring it on towards the end of his stay in Washington.
Sound familir?

Apologies for typos. Blackberry

On the Free Agent Frenzy show, Crawford went to town for a minute about his not having any character and that only a team desperate for some offense would take him...that he was one of the players who winds up at the "island of misfit toys"...then Pierre chimed in that he was a coach killer.

Screw trading assets, let's sign Semin to a 2 year deal 12-14 mill and see what he can do. He's the dynamic scorer we need, in the two year span we can see if he'll buy into the defensive system (+92 over past few years, yes i know overrated stat) and in those 2 years it'll give kreider important years to develope to see if he's all he's made out to be. I think this is a dynamite move that costs nothing and could potentially take our team to the next level, scoring and PP wise.

Semin is absolutely a risk, but he's also a sky high reward. (he's scored 44 before). and I think he may have the best shot in the game. If you're looking for a legit sniper, its definitely him. but he comes with serious risks..

If we get Semin it isn't going to be on a picture perfect idea deal. You'll be looking at 5 years 30-35 million, I would wager.

I think you're right. Parise and Suter might get $100M in this market.

For far too long, Semin has been viewed as some sort of flyer option if we dont nail down another top 6 talent. Thats wrong. Hes going to get overpaid by someone, and I hope its not the Rangers.

I wonder what the chances of him accepting a short term deal are.

I mean, Frolov was originally asking 4 years 20 million and we somehow grabbed him at 1 year 3 million, but I imagine there is a much better market for Semin.

And I bet you anything his agent is being very patient, waiting for teams who fall out of the Parise sweepstakes to land a desperate offer from a team looking for scoring.

Kreider - Richards - Gaborik
Hagelin - Stepan - Semin
Dubinsky - Anisimov - Callahan
Pyatt - Boyle - Asham
Rupp/Haley

That's some solid forward depth. All for signing Semin to a short term deal.

I'd be all for Semin if it was a short term deal. Sure there is a risk, but lets be real. The chances of us getting Nash are becoming slim to none, its a god damn circus.

I remember it was like Jagrfest in 05/06. I don't remember anyone from TSN badmouthing Jagr, but I remember Milbury doing it.

I know many fans aren't old enough to remember some of the on goings from such a long time ago and most TSN articles and video clips don't archive well on the net but it wasn't pretty.

here is one article that quoted TSN and was searchable.
http://proicehockey.about.com/cs/nhl...jagr_trade.htm

"But Jagr's reputation has taken a beating during his two-and-a-half seasons in Washington. He failed to transform the team into a contender and was often accused of being moody and unmotivated. "

Believe me when I tell you they all regurgitated this to extremes. TSN has a heavy bias towards Canadian boys as we all know and extreme prejudice towards everyone else.

There has been reported interest. RT @NYfn311: Is there ANY possibility Semin joins NYR? Goal scorer and could keep current team.

Anything more than 1-2 years and I will not be pleased. Semin is not a long term answer.
