Jagr or Selanne I think would really help the second line in manchester.

Doan would be a better alternative to switch off with gagne on the 4th line.

If King - Fraser - Nolan is our fourth line, that's pretty damn good. I say send Clifford back to Manchester and have him work on his hands and shot.

Brown - Kopitar - Williams
Penner - Richards - Carter
Gagne - Stoll - Lewis
King - Fraser - Nolan

Not bad.

Just as long as they aren't taking PP time away from Toffoli and Vey.

What i don't understand is how we are still in play for another Top 6 forward when we already have too many....

How could we possibly fit a Doan, Selanne, Jagr, type player on the roster? Unless of course, there is a trade in the works that see's one or two guys shipped out....

Clifford wold never make it through waivers. He'd get snatched up by another team in a heartbeat.

Nolan and King are the only 2 that can go to Manchester. Clifford, Richardson and Westgarth are all waiver eligible.

Waiving Westgarth wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. If we do go after Doan we could afford to send Nolan to Manch until someone inevitably gets injured.

I would waive Westgarth. If someone picks him up, no big deal. Richardson and Clifford could be the spare forwards.

Nah, Jagr has become a hack, you know. Teemu wouldn't even consider it.

Toffoli and Vey are rapidly earning their way up the ranks and also turning out just as predicted.

I don't get the chatter all the sudden about trading Scuds and Bernier. If we aren't getting Suter why trade Scuds? Who takes his place Campbell??

I think the Suter thing was the chatter as far as Scuderi goes. But we're clearly not getting Suter, so it should stop.

Cambell just isn't ready. Muzzin could be but he would be a poor mans replacement for Scuderi for a year or two.

Bernier wants to start making his way as a #1 in the NHL and has asked to be moved (or so it has been rumored/reported) and his contract is up at the end of this season.

Otherwise no real reason to make any moves just yet.

We don't have too many. And if you can get that type of player on a contract that works in the short and/or long term, you make space. If a guy like Richardson/Lewis/Nolan needs to be sent down or traded, then so be it. Seeing as how Jagr's in Dallas now and Selanne...well, c'mon we all know who he's signing with so let's settle down, that leaves just Doan essentially. I'll bet he re-ups with Phoenix but on the off-chance we can sign him, that's a no-brainer to me. He would give us hands down the best top 9 league-wide IMO.

Brown - Kopitar - Williams/Doan
Penner - Richards - Carter
Gagne - Stoll - Doan/Williams
King - Fraser/Lewis - Nolan/Lewis/Fraser

That's how you keep a team intact and make it better all at once.

Thanks Z

Selanne has always been my fave non-King. But I think this team can use another Gagne, a guy to win one for. So that's not Teemu.

King would also have to go through waivers to be sent down.

You sure about that he has only played in 53 NHL games and signed at 19. But that is where things get kind of sticky because of the over 20 rule. But is that over 20 when you sign the contract or any games played after 20. Because if it is any games played after 20 then Nolan will also have to face waivers.

The Kings have 14 forward spots next season.

Locks (10)

Kopitar
Brown
Richards
Carter
Williams
Penner
Stoll
Gagne
Fraser
Lewis

Close to Locks (1)
King

I am tempted to put King in the locks, he looked so good in the playoffs, I would be shocked if he didn't make the team. But he will have to earn his spot.

So that leaves Nolan, Clifford, Richardson, Westgarth, Loktionov and any of the AHL guys battling for the remaining spots. And that doesn't even factor in potentially signing another NHL player, such as Doan, who would take another spot.

Westgarth is a non factor in any of this. If he is waived he has almost no chance of being claimed (see Colton Orr). Westgarth seems like a great guy, so I am happy he was able to sign an NHL contract, play almost 100 NHL games and score a goal, but guys like him are a dying breed around the league.

Loktionov needs an entire year in Manchester. I think everyone agrees.

I don't dislike Clifford as a player, and think he offers a unique game, but I have doubts about his game sense, his offensive potential and whether he can play his style and stay healthy. I am not as sold on our 18-23 year old d-man as I am on our 18-23 year old forwards. If the Kings could get a good young d-man in the 18-21 range for Clifford I would do it.

Yes. Due to the number of years since signing. Look at CBA Article 13.4 for more info.

I have he did not sign his contract til he was 19 which gives 4 years or 160 game of exemption. He has not played in 160 games and this will be his 4 year. He should be exempt. He did not make his professional debut until 2009-10 which was the first year he signed. They drafted him in 2007 but it goes from the signing age and time not draft time.

Though Dwight King was technically 19 when he signed his contract, he was viewed as a 20 year old for the purposes of waivers (see CBA Article 13.4, page 67). Thus he only had 3 years of waiver exemption, not 4.
