Not a basketball fan really but I went to a variety of games with my friend this year. gonna start fresh as a Brooklyn fan (where I'm from so it's cool to have a sports team again)
How does that work? They used their one amnesty on Billups - unless I'm very much mistaken, they're stuck with Amar'e and Melo's contracts for the duration.
If they can dump Amar'e next summer that'd be a no brainer - and every reporter on that covers the league would be talking about it, no?
To all the casual knicks fans hopping over to the Nets bandwagon, fare thee well. Enjoy that bandwagon fanbase. I'll be keeping my loyalties with the Knicks in the Mecca of basketball with all the other real new york fans. But hey, if you love that new Nets logo, go right ahead.
Same here.
Its amazing how overrated the Knicks fanbase is.
I still adhere to the belief that there are only 2 truly loyal fan bases in this town, and thats the Giants and Rangers.
As a long time suffering Nets fan, this news has me ecstatic. It is something great to finally look forward to the upcoming season. All I've heard for the past year and a half is Deron will bolt to Dallas, and look what happens now. I'm really liking the team we have put together so far. But, the work isn't done yet. D12 is still in contention.
Who did the Knicks get in the first round of the draft? Didn't hear anything mentioned about it. Considering it's the knicks they probably traded it away for a player with a heart defect...oh wait, that was a couple years ago. lol What an inept organization.
Dude, if you look at the Knicks drafts, they are just as much or more successful with their draft picks than the Nets who have lottery picks mostly every year. Most times the Knicks only have a second round pick.
Actually looking up their picks, seems like they haven't traded that many. Seemed like it was every other year lol
I think NBA had a rule (may still have it) where you cant trade consecutive 1st rounders. So if you trade 2013 1st rounder you have to keep your 2014 1st rounder and so on.
Definitely going for Brooklyn, although it'll be my first year of following an NBA team.
And Fields was O-sheeted so that it handcuffs the Knicks in Nash. If they match it, he can't be traded and if they don't match it, there are no pieces to move for Nash in sign-and-trade. Lose-lose for Knicks.

Believe this is still the rule. Knicks traded their 2012 pick to Houston to clear the Jeffries contract before the summer all those guys became free agents. The 2014 Knicks pick is going to Denver in the Anthony trade.

Correct. The Cavs owner in the 70s traded away #1s like they were candy and essentially hamstrung the team for years. The league instituted the rule to prevent it from happening in the future.
I wish the league would do something to protect the Knicks from their owner...

Lose-lose, maybe....but, i'm a fan of picking up Calderon once they amnesty him. And they can't grab Lin because they have an albatross contract in Landry. So, through smart managing, we can come out ahead.

Reading Raptors NBA forum, it seems the fans are sick of Calderon. Perhaps he is not as good as advertised?

He's not a superstar but he's a fine player. Especially as a backup, it would give us some depth.
I wouldn't use the NBA forums as a way to judge how good a player is. They're probably done with him cuz he's been there for 6(?) seasons and they've been awful in that time.

In lieu of Nash, #Knicks agreed to terms with Italian League forward James White to guaranteed minimum deal, according to Euro website

White is former Florida teammates with Lee, known as high-flying dunker and plays SG and SF like Fields. Once nicknamed 'Flight 75'
White won the dunk contest in Italy last season. Takes high-pct shots, mostly dunks and layups. Better foul shooter than Fields.

Nash/Shumpert debate: Pro: Melo, Amar'e, Tyson have 3 year window in their prime to go for it. Nash, even at 38, is one of best PGs in NBA and can maximize offensive talents. Shump won't play until at least January and no guaranatee he'll be 100 percent by playoffs. Con: Shumpert has all-star potential and is a great perimeter defender, which is rare to find and if championship isn't realized, you lose another first round pick (Wilson, Gallo).

The big question: Are the New York Knicks ready to part ways with Iman Shumpert in order to sign-and-trade for Steve Nash? We'll find out.
Alan Hahn
Steve Nash, meanwhile, and the Knicks are working with the Suns to complete a sign-and-trade deal that would bring Nash to New York. Indications are the Knicks are his top choice, but because a trade is complicated (and there is great hesitation to give up Iman Shumpert), the Raptors are in play. A lot of effort has been made, however, to get this done.
Michael Scotto @MikeAScotto
Steve Nash is giving the Knicks (his top choice) more time to make a sign-and-trade deal with Phoenix. Raptors are still in it. #freeagency
So there goes the idea that Nash would only come here if Dantoni was coach.
