Gionta played in how many games? Bernier has played for how many teams? Wasn't Carter just dumped by Florida? I know they had a good playoffs but I am very doubtful they are able to replicate their scoring next season.

Who cares how many teams they've played for or how they got here? They worked well together for us in the playoffs. Maybe they don't score at the same pace they did (in fact I would say they probably won't), but they don't have to. Zharkov was given multiple chances to make it in the NHL, he didn't take advantage of them. Time to move on.

What's sad is that Zharkov had the skill to put up offensive numbers. It just never went in for him.

Yes, so we retain his rights. As far as the NHL is concerned, he is just on loan to CSKA.

I know, which is why I asked if we qualified him

Gomez at least had a 30 goal season and multiple 70 point seasons.

I'm gonna miss him sorely. I hope he stays safe in Russia and makes it back to the NHL someday. He was such a misunderstood player.

Skating fast and working hard does not equal skill to put up offensive numbers

I'd argue that he had slightly above average passing skill but that's about it. I agree....

Zharkov has pretty excellent vision and the passing skill to use it. He actually has a pretty good shot from what I've seen in Albany, but he has/had absolutely no desire to take the puck to the net or look for open ice to get a pass for a shot.

Unfortunately for him, his offensive tendencies aren't at all suited for fourth liners.

Not much of an opinion on him one way or the other. I did like him when he was a up with the big club over the years. He also did guarantee in the on ice post game interview on the last day of the 10/11 season that we would make the playoffs this past year! Don't know why you would call him dead weight though. It's not like he's clogging up a spot on the main roster.

He did have horrible puck luck in his first season in the NHL. No idea how he managed to miss so many open nets.
