I agree. I fear that Holmgren will panic and get Ryan or Nash though.

Yep, he's goin to get Jagrs 4.5 per at least. 4/20 seems logical unless he resigns in the Pheonix.

I to would love to see both Parise & Suter end up in Minnesota. I think if we were able to sign Doan and maybe add a 4th line center we would be in pretty good shape. I'd even be happy with this lineup. Also would leave open the potential to add someone like Enstrom at the deadline if the Jets were out of the playoff race. Ideally if we could add him and Weber long term to replace Timonen and Pronger we'd be in great shape.

Hartnell-Giroux-Doan
Schenn-Briere-Voracek
Read-Couturier-Simmonds
Rinaldo-Talbot-Wellwood

Grossman-Coburn
Timonen-Schenn
Meszaros-Gustafson

Bryzgalov
Leighton

Give Semin 1 yr 5 million and let him score 50 goals with G and he can hit the jackpot next year. Sign and second tier D man, and go with the young roster we have.

There is no need to make a move. This is the time to put faith in your scouts and your drafted talent. Oh hell, we might even have some cap space to make a splash at the deadline too for the first time in 10 years.

Hartnell - Giroux - ?
Simmonds - Schenn - Voracek
Briere - Couturier - Read
Rinaldo - Holmstrom - Talbot
Wellwood

Timonen - Gustaffson
Coburn - Grossman
Mezaros - Schenn

I have a great deal of faith in Gus, I believe the flyers brass are extremely high on him also. I will take a massive hit on this, but I believe he will be another Timonen. For anyone worried about his defensive side, he was only a +12 last season. I personally think that he's here to replace Carle this season. He will be solid defensively and will put up similar numbers offensively given PP time.

For claudes right wing dilema, There are several options available in free agency. Semin for one year, Doan. There are also options available through trade, and i'm not talking about nash here.
I think most of us want to see him be the next JM Liles before we start calling him the next Kimo. I thnk they have more faith in Bourdon then Gus. I would honestly like to see all of the d prospects (Gus, Laurisden, Manning, Bourdon) get a full season under T. Murray if possible and bring in a vet like Hannan or Roszival. They look to upgrade at the deadline.

He'll go to KHL and make $9MM before taking $5MM for 1 year.

This is the best case scenario. We don't get stuck with their cap hits for 12 year, NJ is weakened, and Pittsburgh doesn't get their guy.

I much prefer them going to the Wild, even as to being here. With Pitt, I feel they're so close that these two may put them over the top...with the Wild, I feel like it'll simply improve them, but put them more on par with some top tier teams.

If they both go to the Wild, I'm stoked.

Someone mentioned the prospect of grabbing meuller on a 1 year deal, and thinking about ot, I think that could be a great idea. He's a kid with a lot of talent who's had some bad injury luck, he could potentially come cheap and he could be a great 3rd line winger for couts. And we'd still have enough cap to take a run at Semin.

And then we could perhaps grab a guy like Roszival or Hannan to play the 3rd pairing with Mez. And then in the summer when timonen and hartnell come off the cap, hello weber.

I like Doan, but I don't think I'm cool with a $5 mil, 4 year 35+ contract.

The thing about Mueller is you could realistically sign him and someone like Winnik for significantly less combined than we would have to pay for someone like Doan.

Quote:
FORWARDS
Scott Hartnell ($4.200m) / Claude Giroux ($3.750m) / Jakub Voracek ($3.250m)
Brayden Schenn ($3.110m) / Danny Briere ($6.500m) / Wayne Simmonds ($1.750m)
Peter Mueller ($2.000m) / Sean Couturier ($1.375m) / Matt Read ($0.900m)
Daniel Winnik ($1.250m) / Maxime Talbot ($1.750m) / Eric Wellwood ($0.580m)
Jody Shelley ($1.100m) / Zac Rinaldo ($0.544m) /
DEFENSEMEN
Braydon Coburn ($4.500m) / Nicklas Grossmann ($3.500m)
Kimmo Timonen ($6.333m) / Luke Schenn ($3.600m)
Andrej Meszaros ($4.000m) / Marc-Andre Bourdon ($0.875m)
Chris Pronger ($4.921m) / Andreas Lilja ($0.738m)
GOALTENDERS
Ilya Bryzgalov ($5.667m)
Michael Leighton ($0.900m)
BUYOUTS
Oskars Bartulis ($0.100m)
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $70,200,000; CAP PAYROLL: $67,193,373; BONUSES: $2,705,000
CAP SPACE (24-man roster): $3,006,627
(Those numbers are a bit higher than I expect they will sign for, but, using them as a "worst case" baseline...)

From there, you have a couple of options--

First, you could make a minor upgrade on the defense, or stand pat, and not have to (immediately) put Pronger on LTIR--which would preserve a bit more flexibilty for later in the season.

Second, you could throw a, say, $5.5 million contract at Carle--or something else that is perhaps a bit below market but above the Flyers last offer ($4.75 or so).

In either case, Winnik / Talbot provides an insurance policy for Mueller. A 4C would probably be better than Winnik, but I'm not sure what Dominic Moore's status is with regard to his wife's illness.

I think maybe Homer knows neither ZP or RS where going to come to Philly but he has set the bar way high for wherever both of them go, and that Homer actually might be in the midst of trading for something, maybe I would think even if neither of them signed in Philly it definately makes it tougher price-wise for wherever they go, smart on Homer's part kudos Paul

Mueller might be my favorite option at this point.

Doan would be great, but I can guarantee his contract would be dead weight and the topic of intense hatred in about 3 years.

Mueller is low risk, high reward. I'd like Semin, too, but I'm not comfortable giving up multiple years for him, and I am sure there will be one team who does.

I say sign Mueller and Roszival and call it a day. If Murray comes calling for a reduced price Bobby Ryan (Read+Mez+1st), then I would pull the trigger on that. Otherwise, I'm very happy with what we've got.

She has a very rare form of liver cancer, I believe. I'm not certain about all the details, but I believe he left the team late in the season to deal with it, and I'm not sure how it affects his future plans--in the sense of playing at all, or staying on the West Coast, etc.

I would take Semin on a 2 or 3 year deal, he is absolutely the second best winger on the FA market. Unless the price for Ryan goes down, it has got to be the best option out there. Plus it saves assets that we can use to trade for Weber, if he becomes available, which I think there is a chance.

Suter and Parise to the Wild please!
