We should be better than last year because last year was a product of some luck and mismanagement amplifying the teams flaws. But most teams in the east got better.

One move, even bringing AK back would make me feel much better, so hopefully I'm wrong.
Problem is, if everything goes well for any team, they will be appreciably better. It just doesn't happen that way.

$8,277,024 left in cap space. Add $575,500 to that if you don't have Blunden still up with the Habs. Then you have just under $9 million left in the piggy bank before you hit the ceiling. Keep in mind;

- You need to re-sign Eller (RFA)
- You need to re-sign Subban (RFA)
- If there is a need, Diaz also needs a new contract (RFA)

After that, how much would you be left with?

For the most part, they were pretty positive about AK for most of last year on AC. Actually, they all pretty much complained about how he was used before the trade deadline, especially when he was bumped to the 4th line with Gomez. I remember Michel Bergeron calling him often "le mal aimé" without reason. Even Gaston Therrien defended him often. I can't recall Michel Therrien complaining about him as he did about Gomez and Kaberle.

He did have some haters though... Benny Brunet comes to mind rather quickly. The same Benoit Brunet who's been complaining that he wasn't considered for a "player development" job with the Habs. Wow, that would have been a joke!

Not sure if serious. I don't think anyone should be signed to 14 years.

Is it impossible for Makrov to actually be healthy and play like a top 4 d-man? He will be 22 months removed from surgery by opening night. Is that not a big addition?

It's likely that Gionta Moen and White play a lot more, those guys missed like 140 games combined.

Bourque and Kaberle arrived late and played some of their worst hockey last year, it's not a big stretch for them to bounce back. Plus Diaz and Emelin are no longer rookies, should be more consistant and give a bigger contribution.

Some gritty/character bottom 6 guys will surely help, including holding leads.

There is still lots of cap room to add other players.
You might say you've been hearing this crap, but it sure shows that you haven't been watching it. Because we all have. And truth is the names you bring up don't scare anyone, and the improvements you forecast are mostly nothing but pipe-dreams.

We don't have a playoff caliber roster, and Bergevin has shown no interest in squeaking in to our usual 8th spot. We aren't a good team, and the sooner you accept it the better.

Isn't it sad that Minnesota is a more attractive organization to players than Montreal? MB has a lot of work to do...

Wait until you see the numbers. And Parise and Suter are from around the Minny area. We'll see if this pays off for them but it's a heck of a move. Hopefully Bergie won't be scared of pulling the trigger when the time comes in a year or two to add big names like that.

I don't see a lot of East teams as better, which ones have made major additions without major substractions. Buffalo and Boston are a fair bit worse on paper(lost Thomas Corvo Roy).
Buffalo is something of a wild card, they are worse on paper but like the Habs, they had some bad luck last year. I'm not sure what that team is doing short term.

Boston is worse except for the fact that their potential franchise center Seguin is one year older.

Apparently Wings are out for Parise which probably means Semin is going there.

No, what's sad is local Minny star players want to go home, but local Montrealers don't. Briere, Vinny, etc

It doesn't matter, anything to bash the Habs.

Now we only need top players in their prime from this province to start signing to come to Montreal as UFAs (Brière, Lecavalier....).

Imagine Gainey's legacy if those two hadn't been such vagina's about the pressure of coming home. Lecavalier-Briere as a 1-2 punch down the middle woulda been awesome
