Those are freakishly long deals though.

They'll be good for the first 5 years though. Then it's all going downhill.

They'll get a cup in 2 years. Or a cup run.

I'm trying to imagine the reactions in the media had non-North Americans (I.E. Russians) signed such huge deals...

It is the best scenario for every team not involved in the race for both and for teams not in the NW!

Det: Would have sucked to see them fill their newly blatant hole (Lidstrom) and still being serious contenders
Pit: Do I need to explain, Crosby, Parise, Malkin, Suter.....
Philly: Same thing as Det (Pronger) and one of our most hated rivals

EDIT: Fel must be ****ing happy at the moment hehe

Anything is possible, did you think Boston was going to win the Cup last year and the Kings this year? the Wild do already have some very good players in Koivu, Heatley, Setoguchi, Bouchard and have some top notch prospects so I really don't understand how you can say they have no shot and they have 2 great goalies as well

I'll never understand him. Habs had a gaping hole at #1 C, wanted him so badly, and had a need for a captain. He had the city handed to him on a silver platter and said no to stay in the obscurity of Tampa Bay. Hard to respect a Montrealer who would pass that up, he could've been a legend.

I think Suter is a damn good defenseman but that is a totally insane deal for him.

You can bet that this will be one of the last mega-deals we see. Term limits will be in the next CBA for sure.

Crosby never said he would never play for Montreal or any other team for that matter. Lecavalier did that's the difference

These long term deals are going to kill this league. How unfortunate.

Maybe Heatley is available now?

I expect to see Semin and Carle overpayed very soon. We'll also see the Nash trade go down as well. Should see some other deals for impact players too.

Can't handle the pressure and would rather take the sun and grab his ass, good for him I guess

Let's all take a moment to say how awesome it is that the Devils just got way weaker.

True but at the same time Parise missed all of the previous season and the Devils did have one of their worst season ever

Not me. I'd hate to have those 2 albatross players for 2 good (not great) players.

There are only 1 or 2 players who deserve that kind of deal and they both play in Pittsburgh.

You take their captain and a PPG forward away and it's going to make a difference. That's a team we'll be battling for a bottom rung playoff spot, it's a huge loss for them man, especially for the Habs who always have trouble playing NJ... i guess they still have Marty, but one of the best forwards in the Eastern Conference is now gone, this is a good, good thing

It doesn't affect us nearly as much, but the Preds are going to be a special kind of irrelevant soon enough. Weber is for sure getting out of there.
