I couldn't care less where Semin lands.

Very very happy to see them go to to the Wild. Loved when they brought a team back there. It's great for American hockey in general because of the market they'll be playing in now. Also elated to see them stay away from the Penguins for obvious reasons. Still think they have some serious issues on defense that Suter alone can't fix, but I think this makes them a definite playoff team. They're signed for a long time and I expect it to be at least a few more years until they're serious contenders as some up and coming talent moves up but there's no need to hurry. They've got 13 years to work on it.

Really think this will revitalize Heatley's game. I think having some help will be a serious boost in confidence for him. I expect quite a boost in Steoguchi's production now as well.

Congrats Minnesota, you guys are on the way back up.

Top 5 center in the league injured for half the year

Best offensive defensemen in the league injured for 50 games

Add a top 20 center in the league through trade

Better goalie this year than last

Better coach this year than last

Further development from young players (Carlson, Alzner, Orlov, Holtby, Johansson, Perreault)

K sounds good. Wild vs Caps SCF next year.
Umm, sure. That's exactly what I said.

1 the creasey is not a source.

2 would Detroit overpay for a year of Green and try again for Weber next year?

I know im pretty much alone on this but, and I do like Suter, but....just not sure I give him 13 years.

On one hand its very possible he is a good player for 13 years.....but I just dont see him as a difference maker. I've always just thought of him as a very good player but not great.

Well the thing with Suter is that we don't know how good he is without Weber. Who's the next best defenseman on the Wild? Gilbert?

Still I would take both Parise and Suter and their contracts on the Caps without hesitation.

Caps need to be all over Clutterbuck if they have to trade him

Also, we still need to sign someone

He's the least risky long term signing I can think of. Never had a serious injury. Never misses more than a couple games w wear and tear injuries. Doesn't rely on speed. And he's a cerebral player. Oh well.

FORWARDS
Alex Ovechkin ($9.538m) / Nicklas Backstrom ($6.700m) / Marcus Johansson ($0.900m)
Brooks Laich ($4.500m) / Mike Ribeiro ($5.000m) / Troy Brouwer ($2.350m)
Jason Chimera ($1.750m) / Mathieu Perreault ($1.500m) / Joel Ward ($3.000m)
Matt Hendricks ($0.825m) / Jay Beagle ($0.750m) / Joey Crabb ($0.950m)
Mattias Sjogren ($0.900m) /
DEFENSEMEN
Roman Hamrlik ($3.500m) / Mike Green ($5.000m)
Karl Alzner ($1.285m) / John Carlson ($3.500m)
Jack Hillen ($0.650m) / Dmitry Orlov ($0.900m)
Jeff Schultz ($2.750m) /
John Erskine ($1.500m) /
GOALTENDERS
Michal Neuvirth ($1.150m)
Braden Holtby ($0.638m)
BUYOUTS
Tyler Sloan ($0.233m)
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $70,200,000; CAP PAYROLL: $59,769,572; BONUSES: $240,000
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $10,430,428

I'm guessing on the RFAs, but think it's reasonable. It seems likely that one of Schultz or Erskine is gone. So that's an additional $1.5M - $2.75M in space.

I'd throw a big one year deal at Doan ($6M or so).

I'm going to agree with this. I think with Suter you know exactly what you're going to get night in and night out. A lot of these other mega-length deals are far more risky than his.

I figure they'll talk contract in 13 though. He will force their hand to start getting chemistry with OV before Sochi.

Well, sorry to those who harbored hopes of getting either of those guys, but at least Pens didn't get them. Although if they get Semin... lol.

One other thing -- so normally, I'm in the front ranks of bashing Caps for letting players walk for nothing. But I guess, Parise and Suter.. walked for nothing, eh? The great Lamoriello got a big fat nothing for Parise... .. I just don't understand these NHL GM's. You have a star that's likely to leave, you can get a truckload of assets for him in a trade to cushion or even exceed (long term) his absence, but no, you hold on gambling on him magically changing his mind. It's absurd..

Fair enough. Honestly, I just don't buy that excuse from a franchise that extended Poti and his shredded groin, extended an ancient Kolzig, and drafted a player with five concussions in the first round. Honestly, I just think they're dumb. And it is that stupidity, not any plan or philosophy, that drives their decision making.

My point is you used excuses as to why the Wild struggled last year, which could also be applied to the Caps struggles last year...

The caps wouldn't be interested and couldn't afford him.

It is interesting though. What incentive does he have to finish off his career in ****tsburgh rather than somewhere where he could play with a Russian winger in a more Russian friendly place?
