Taken from the Wild forum. Missing a 2C and possibly another D vet and that's close to being a contender...
Close to a contender?.. Close to a playoff team, maybe.

They have 1 legit Top 4 D (Gilbert is kind of questionable). Their 2nd line is mediocre at best, and their 3rd and 4th lines are average 3rd and 4th lines.

contender?..

The fact is they were a bottom 5 team in the west before and they're a 6-8 seed now.
I would say that the Wild were better than they finished last season. Remember, they were atop the West up until December and then injuries destroyed them. I see no reason why they can't get back to where they were at that point, especially considering they did it with the same team they have now, minus Parise and Suter.

Minnesota is now approximately as good on paper as Chicago or San Jose... Not really that scary. This just increased the number of bubble playoff teams in the West. Nashville and Detroit got weaker, Minnesota got stronger.

Edmonton added a guy out of college?

Colorado still sucks.
Minny has one of the best prospect pools in the league... They're only going to get better, much like Edmonton.

Vancouver still looks pretty set for a couple of years... the Sedins are still dominant and the team's still in it's prime on the whole.

Colorado's still building, but they have a very talented young core that had an off year last year. I expect guys like Duchene and Stastny to have big bounce-back years.

Calgary got a little younger, but gave up our top Center in the process... If this is the roster we roll with Hartley's going to have his work cut out for him.

You still have to play the games and with injurys anything can happen. Lsst time i cheacked backstrom and harding get hurt every year so i doubt Mini will be close to the playoffs buy the end of the year.

Nah, they started playing poorly prior to the injuries. That became a convenient excuse after, but the poor play started before the injuries mounted. Their great start was smoke-and-mirrors. I remember reading several articles which broke it down statistically, looking at like SF/SA and what not, and how it would eventually switch course. Which it did... big time.

If anything, they finished higher than they should have because of their miraculous start to the season.

Definitely underrating some of the Minnesota D. Closer to at least three top 4 defenseman.
Last season was being treated like the only threat on the team, which he was for a lot of the season and still managed to score. I'm sure he'll enjoy playing against softer competition. Again. Just missing that 2C and vet D. Shame hey don't really have any cap space at the moment.

This was just posted but where was Minnesota at the beginning half of the season? Barring injuries, they could fight closer for 5th or 6th this season.

Colorado marginally upgraded but they've had a lot of players break out last season.
Vancouver is well.... Vancouver. And Edmonton? Meh.

This seems to be a story for the Wild more often than not over the past decade. I never judge that team by where they are in December, because history says in 2 months they're hovering at 12-13 again... like always. Obviously that's going to change now but some of you are overreacting. How the hell does Minnesota acquiring Parise and Suter mean we need to rebuild?

The NW will be interesting to say the least. I'm just glad Parise didn't sign with the Penguins.

I don't think we need to rebuild, but there's a log jam in the West now for 5-13 IMO. Flames don't need to rebuild, but they need to get over that jam. Right now we're looking at a 7-10 team, have to do something to get into that next bracket. Feaster will have to pull a rabbit out of his hat for this one...

Still need a top line center, and we could be a completely different team (confident actually).

It feels like every time we plug a hole we open a new one though... Trade Jbo for a top center? Now we need a top defenseman...

I don't envy Feaster.

Sucks for out teams chances, but hey it's fun for us fans to be in one of the best divisions in hockey again. I'm just hoping we can compete in it.

Really happy for Minnesota too... the Detroit Red Wings of my childhood might become the Minnesota Wild for today's young fans.

This doesn't bode well for the Flames.
However, this makes Minny vs Flames games more exciting to watch.
(Don't think I'll be giving away these tickets anymore!)

second line mediocre?

Heatley-x-Setoguchi is mediocre?

As long as whoever centres that line isn't a plug then i'd say that line is better or equal to our first line.

A lot of ground to cover, that's for sure.
Give Feaster a couple months here, and hope to the Hockey Gods there are some kind of deal's available.

We'll be joining the Avalanche in the basement of the NW. Sad time to be sure.

We play them 6 times. All we need to do is split the season series like we try to do with Vancouver. We just need our 96 points.

Our main problem last year was losing to the basement teams. We would have a playoff spot if we didn't blow it against Edmonton, Columbus and the NYI so many times.

Everyone needs to relax, wow, our season is already over because of the events of today??? get a grip

Yes the Wild got alot better, but that doesn't make them a "team". The pieces still have to round into form to be a legitimate contender.

The history of UFA signings always has these summer declarations that this team or that team is now the team to beat. Heck I remember when we made the Tanguay-Leopold trade, I was standing with my buddy in a lounge watching the ticker on the NHL and we were like "Wow Calgary is going to the Cup, Iggy's going to score 60 with Tanguay, etc."

Or how about how Pittsburgh was going to roll over everyone to the Cup this year?

Or when Colorado signed Kariya and Selanne?
