Maybe Detroit or Chicago miss out for a season.
I see Chicago not making it

They're going to have some of the same problems New Jersey has. A top-heavy lineup with a lot of salary taken up by 2 players and difficulty filling out the rest of their roster. Having one of those players be a #1D mitigates that somewhat, but having $7.5+MM tied up in a top line winger with issues down the middle is risky to say the least.

Does anyone else see Kovalchuk requesting for a trade in the next couple of years?

Im actually really excited about this news, and im not in any way a wild fan. It's just awesome that a die hard fanbase that has never had a good team finally have something happen that they can celebrate

doubt many teams, if any would want him. 6.6 cap hit forever for a guy out of his prime now

Did you forget that they also have Heatly signed for 2 more seasons at $7.5? They are very thin up the middle, especially when facing the top teams in the West.

I wouldn't trade the Kings NHL roster for the Wilds NHL roster.

Dallas wouldn't mind. That's their kind of player. Out of prime.

Exactly. I don't think they'll be as bad as NJ was, but they won't be the juggernaut that some think they will be, and would really struggle in the playoffs as currently constructed.

Yeah, it is kind of cool to see. A lot of Minnesota fans in tears. It is something you don't see too often, players signing together like that for a purpose other than just winning. Good for them and their club. Will definitely add a lot of excitement for them this coming year.

Their issue is the lack of defensive depth, it's not down the middle. Between Koviu and Granlund they should be set down the middle for a long time. Plus as of right now if you can fill Matt Cullen as a third line center that's not a bad position.

A little disappointed Kings couldn't acquire Parise but not that down about it at all, congrats to Minnesota, great hockey market who just got two good players, maybe a little much but they deserve it, just waiting for the rest of the dominoes to fall!

Glad to see they've finally signed, and am even happier that we didn't sign either one of them. We now have plenty of cap space to be flexible, possibly sign Doan for 1-2 years, and then resign our core as needed. Brown is up next and will likely get a raise (although I expect him to take a hometown discount again).

I imagine this is what the Red Wings felt like about 10 years ago. Hopefully we will see the same success throughout our entire system, from the NHL roster down to the prospects.

I think Detroit grossly overpays Semin and/or Carle now.

Just woke up and saw the Knews about Parise and Suter.

Really surprised. I guess being closer to home was the biggest factor for both of them. I'm happy for Wild fans.

A lot of fans of every team get defensive about that stuff. It becomes a personal insult. Like if someone doesn't pick the Kings to win the division next year, it'll become an issue about disrespecting the defending champs who are bringing back the whole team. I mean, really, how can the Kings not win the division??!?!?!?!

Then stats start to be thrown around to prove point's and counterpoint's. Then it's about have you watched X or Y team. More stats. Some do you realize type stuff. More stats. Accusations of bias. More stats.

Just the nature of internet message boards. Especially when emotional ties to a team get thrown into the mix.

I think Parise wanted to sign with the Wild as soon as July 1st hit, but it took him a few days to convince Suter to join him instead of going to Detroit.

The BS about his family was really a smoke screen about him talking with Suter.

I wouldn't be surprised to see both Pittsburgh and Minnesota as being the "favorites" to win the Cup next season. People will point to Minnesota being #1 in the first 30 games last season, will blame injuries for their collapse. The Wild need to win quickly if they want to keep the team together.

They will be the sexy pick for next season.

Yea same here. They deserve a good team.

Anyone else think Detroit will sign both Semin & Carle as Plan B?

Yep.

Carle getting about $6.5M (or 2M more than he should).
