That means Cal Clutterbuck could be expendable, I don't know about you guys, but I'd have interest if the price isn't too steep.
You know, I usually don't care about big name free agents because I know we can't sign them.
But when a team like Minnesota signs both big names FAs, it kinda leaves a sour taste in my mouth.
When do we get that joyous moment where we get to have a big name come here? ****ing Minnesota man? Seriously?
Why are you hating on Minnesota when they are probably the most hockey-obsessed state in the country? I think their fan base is one of the best around and any American-born hockey player would LOVE to play in Minnesota.
I think Parise is but Suter is from Wisconsin. And I read on NHL.com that parise's wife to be is from north Dakota.
But I get the gist of your point -- same part of the country. I think also Parise was favoring going to the west, if he'd come east he'd have to fear for his safety every time he's in Joisey
On the money point, we could afford $7-8-9M per year range for a player or two, but for 12 years? That's insane, from risk viewpoint.
I know a few here think that we haven't improved so far this summer but man does it seem New Jersey took a big step backwards. Losing Parise & Poni. An older Marty & Elias. Can Clarkson put up similar numbers to last season?

They have moved backwards, no question, and have nowhere near our prospects. True that.
Everything considered that I've read about Semin, including the negatives, I still think he'd be a big help on this team. He could become the ovechkin or the kovalchuk of Florida. He's got a big Russian ego, he needs to be the man, here he could become a second coming of Bure, or almost.
If Olli could have helped us a little at $9M/2yrs, then surely Semin could help us at say $20M/3yrs.
Now that is a great improvement in offense and Defense. I am glad though that both are in the West and did NOT sign with the Wings...I wouldnt mind seein more teams win like the Wild, Kings, the Panthers of course..
When we sign another forward, our offense will be better.
The UFA pool is not empty. If Jokinen was our one saving grace, then we were in deep trouble. There are other centers out there. Wellwood or Arnott would be just as good as Jokinen. And we don't have to get a center. It would be preferable, but we can make the playoffs by adding another winger and going with Goc as our #2 again.
Wellwood or Arnott would not be as good as Jokinen. But it's ok, I have to lower my expectations back to realism. They were too high when this UFA season started because of our success last season. We'll go with the rookies and build from within for another year.

I don't know if I'd give Semin 3 years. The salary is fine, but nobody knows what Semin they're gonna get, the 40 goal scorer, or the big Russian egomaniac. I'd have no problem with a 2 year deal so he can prove himself, but not anything longer.

in addition to the fact these guys are from the area:
