Knicks, Suns are in the critical stages of discussions on a sign-and-trade deal that would pay Nash $27M-$30M over 3 years, sources tell Y!

NY package would include Iman Shumpert, Toney Douglas and likely 3 low money players to get Nash salary needed to close gap on Toronto offer

You wanna hear fans of small market teams scream conspiracy? Just until the Knicks get Steve Nash without having to give up Iman Shumpert
You get Nash, but you have to find a way to improve the perimeter D. Nash doesn't play a lick of D and im not sure who else is out there for pure defensive purposes. The reason why I think you pull the trigger is because Shump won't be back until Jan. anyways, plus who knows how he'll come back. Amare is almost done, Chandler aging, and who knows with Melo, you gotta go for it all and try and win now.
Nash is one of my favorite players of all-time. I'm really disappointed to see that he'd rather go to the Knicks than go to Dallas and play with Dirk. Not only is Dirk a much better player than anyone on the Knicks, but he and Nash are a perfect fit together. They were a joy to watch the last time around.
There's nothing that I've ever seen in their respective careers to make me believe Nash and Anthony would be anything but an awkward fit. The Celtics are probably going to be better this year than they were last year. The Nets are going to be better. I don't see this working out nearly as well for the Knicks as they think.
Nash could go to Dallas or the Lakers and be a much better fit with a better chance to win.

Dallas has no one there besides Dirk.
Kidd is likely gone and Terry and they just got bounced in the 1st round. Plus, Dirk is also aging.
Why would he rather go to the Knicks? I don't know, maybe cause he'd like to reunite with Amare, play with one of the best PnR players like Chandler, and with Melo.

An aging Dirk is universes better than anyone on the Knicks. Dirk is one of the greatest players of all-time, and he's a much smarter player than any of the Knick "big names." Dirk hasn't slowed down a bit, and what does Nash care? He's 39, he'll be retired by the time Dirk starts to downgrade noticeably.
The Mavericks have a ton of cap space, and if they got Nash, would probably be the team with the best shot at getting Howard after the Nets. I could also see them getting Josh Smith if he wants out in Atlanta.
The Knicks under Woodson were 18-6 with a ton of injuries. They are basically hedging their bets that prior to camp, Melo and Amare will both be healthy and in shape for a full camp, and that Nash is a significant upgrade over Lin/Davis.
The issue is that Shumpert played a huge role in the Knicks being 18-6.

As @alanhahn notes, Knicks PREFER to chase Nash w/out Shumpert. Sources say they're trying to find third team to join proposal to avoid it
Also rumors of Camby and Grant Hill coming over as well
Good luck finding that "3rd team". No one is going to help the Knicks...
Not that It would happen anyway, but getting Nash takes them out of CP3.
Who some speculate, wants to still come to the Knicks.
But like I said, how would that work?
I'm about to give up on this organization if they trade Shumpert. I'm sorry, I can't take it anymore.

That's the key.
The only way it works out is if Jeremy Lin becomes a late bloomer like Nash and you have him locked up for a few years at less money than CPIII.
For the record, I'm against acquiring Nash. I want the same team who flourished under Woodson to come back rested and healthy and see how they do in a normal 82-game schedule with normal travel.
Minus Fields and davis, of course. They are replaceable.
