Condolences from a STL fan; it really, really sucks. I think Poile is a great GM, but in this case, he was way too sentimental. Hopefully, he'll be more realistic with Weber.

that's twice now that Poile hasn't listened to the player ... Poile needs to get his **** together from now on when players say "Family" it's code for 86 out the door

Then Poile should have slapped the contract down in front of him and said, "great to hear that Ryan, now sign." And if he didn't, that's when i would have started working on a trade that would benefit the Predators.

what a copout..

if thats the case, he knew the whole time he wouldn't re-sign here. and he just said what he did to save grace and not be traded when he was obviously on a good team with a shot at a run for the cup.

**** you suter, **** you. eat **** and die.

Note that Suter told Poile that AFTERWARDS. After he signed with Minnesota.

If we look back through all the Suter UFA threads, all the talk was it was between Minnesota/Nashville/Detroit.

Then, we all pretty much agreed that he would sign with the highest bidder.

So, July get's here, and he signs with the one team of the 3 that offered him the biggest deal.

I don't see how this could be a surprise to anyone.

Hey man this is how I look at it. Of course our fans would be livid with Parise going to the Rangers. It's like Suter going to the Wings with the Preds fans. I would understand why he went to the Rangers though. A team that has missed the playoffs once post lockout? Just like the Devils, and the Preds. All teams who have missed the playoffs only once since 06? They left to go to a team that hasn't made the playoffs in 5 years? That's what just boggles my mind!

but when the talks took place over the course of the year dating back to last summer, that was not a factor.

I don't see either, but it sure did surprise our GM!

I feel bad for Nashville more than NJ. It's a shame, Nashville has great fans and a great development system. Always gets the short end of the stick, though.

-First Radulov bolts to the KHL while under contract.
-Hamhuis leaves Nashville. ( Can't say I'm too sorry about this one, love Hamhuis )
-Radulov comes back and doesn't really help the team out with his selfish ways. Goes back to KHL.
-Suter leaves.

I'd have to think trading Weber is a MUST now. I'd love him in Vancouver. We probably don't have anything you guys want, though.

It's not that much bigger of a deal. As someone pointed out, with state income taxes in Minnesota, their offer was only $500K more than ours. That's chump change, especially when we're much more competitive than them.

Minnesota went in big last night .... Poile didn't get his supposed chance at a final bid ... not sure that it would have mattered much unless they went way over the Wild's monetary offer.

This frees up a crapload of money to spend on extending Weber, so they better give him the best god damn offer a defenseman has ever had.

Does not matter how much money is offered if he does not want to play here. He refused to sign last year for 8+ million because the Preds wanted him here long term and he refused. If anything $uter's deal means he's already thinking about next year and his chance at UFA. If he suits up for us next season under a 1 year deal then Poile should be fired. Either long term or no term.

Basically his contract in MN is worth more by a mere 500k over the course of 13 years than it would have been in Nashville. ****ing pathetic
It doesn't work as simply as you suggest. First, his state income taxes are deductible at the federal level. Which mutes a fair portion of the $588k in annual state taxes you've calculated. Secondly, both teams play in municipalities and states which also tax, further complicating things. He'd clearly make more money, all other things being equal, in TN. But the spread he received from Minnesota is probably more than enough to cover any additional income taxes owed.

As for him choosing Minnesota, in general, I go out of my way to avoid places like Minnesota for anything more than a brief stay during warmer months. It always interesting when I read about people who willingly choose to live there.

Minnesota also stole our symbol and just turned it facing other way and put trees and crap in it. Now they steal our stud defenseman.

I hope wild is the new jackets from last year

If you guys want an optimistic look at this, I'm hoping Parise and Suter turn out to be Gomez & Redden 2.0. As should you.

Condolences to Preds fans. You guys deserved a fairer shake than what that ***** Suter gave you.

As Ken Holland mentioned, Suter's wife is from Minnesota, his grandparents are nearby ........ we need to find single orphans to play for us.
