Was wondering what Detroit fans would be willing to part with for Markov.
He's got a rap as injury prone, but at least one of the long-term injuries really was just bad luck(ankle cut by the skate of Carey Price).
He's one of, if not the best puck moving defenseman in the league when he's healthy. He's great defensively, very smart, and can QB a powerplay.
Obviously, he's a staple in Montreal (and likely our biggest chance at the playoffs), but it's clear the Habs are in a bit of a rebuilding stage.
I think Detroit would benefit most from Markov since he's in a similar mold of Lidstrom. He's obviously not Lidstrom, but when healthy, he's probably as close as you can get.
As for what MTL is looking for? Probably some help on the blueline that's still relatively young or a top-6 forward. The guys must have an 110% compete level to fit in with the new Habs.
i see some positives in going after markov for sure, but given the injuries, it could be a pretty high-risk plan.
i guess filppula fits in to what the habs want, and kindl could possibly thrive given the right team and right circumstances, but like i said, markov is pretty high-risk. might be a case of too high risk to get fair value.

Filppula would definitely fit into what the Habs are looking for, but that's a huge staple taken out of Detroit, is it not? I guess they could still sign Kostitsyn or Semin to try and off-set the loss though.
Kindl is definitely interesting, but I think he'd be more of a "final piece" rather than a main course.
It is definitely high-risk, all things considered but he's just such an amazing player that you have to decide whether it's worth it or not.
I wouldn't want to trade him from MTL, but with the rebuilding going on, if we could get at least fair market value, it might be the smarter thing to do.

oh for sure. kindl plus extras would never get it done, i shouldn't have thought, unless the extras were our top prospects. flip is coming off a career year and i wouldn't really want to give him up, but in terms of fair value, he may be the only piece that gets it done. we also need a d (or 2) badly now, whereas if we could get semin or doan the flip becomes more expendable. i wouldn't be surprised to see flip, franzen or both dealt in the right situation.
dunno that markov would be the right situation, but if it happened i'd expect a deal based around flip.
My guess is given his recent streak of injuries he has more value to the Habs than he would get in a trade. Even if they kept him for half a season just to showcase what he has and then dealt him they'd probably be better off.
Markov was amazing for us, he's a tremendous player but I think it's time to move on and trade him. The thing is even with Markov we still need a top 4D so if we trade him we would need 2. It would probably get a top 6 and a soon to be ready D prospect.
If Markov plays 75 games he will be in Norris contention.
That's a pretty bold statement
If he plays 75 games I don't doubt he will be in the top scoring Dmen and do quite well defensively, but Norris contention?
As far as trading him goes, the Habs are in no position to do so since they will never get a proper return because of his recent injuries. We're stuck with him and I don't mind seeing him in a Habs uniform at all, especially if his knee truly is 100%.
