He's not worth near $100 million.
But we were never going to pay that much to keep him anyway.

Weak FA class, best guy gets overpaid.

Happened with Richards.

Parise will be worth his cap hit the first three or four seasons. After that? Probably not.

It's very tough to change a player's game in any significant way after his first few years in the league. That's why signing Kovy to the lifetime deal was a risk, and it's why I'd be surprised if Semin changed by coming to the Devils. Never assume you can fix a player's weaknesses.

Agreed. Despite what Lou said about our offer being competitive, I don't think we came anywhere close to making him a $100 M player.

If we got Ryan or Semin I don't think the team would miss a beat..parise isn't that much better than them..now if we don't get them we will take a step back

the reason i would be worried if i were the wild is because parise stands a very good chance of falling off a cliff in 5 years. his style of play means he'll drop like a fly once he starts to slow down.

We saw it this year, following the knee injury and some aging.

He lost a little bit of his quickness and aging legs will turn him into a bottom 6 guy halfway through the contract.

we can't sign Semin. everything we hate about Kovalchuk X2? count me out. i would much rather give up the assets to get Ryan than add someone like Semin while our locker room is in such a transition. IMO Semin needs to go to an established room ALA Detroit to be truly successful

EDIT: and i know the assets to get Ryan would be very substantial. 1st rounder, Merrill +

I think we all said it before the UFA madness took hold and we wanted him back all costs: he isn't going to remain as effective past his early thirties. Once his speed falls off, most of his game goes with it.

We still need to replace his boardwork and hustle with a top 6 guy.

If we move Henrique to wing then we'll need another C to step up. Hopefully Josefson's guarantee injury this year won't sideline him too long.

ghosts of seasons past in this parise drama. papa parise is mama nieds.....suter is brother robbie.....

the fact that these 2 talked about playing together well before today and now the heist they pulled just reeks.

all those comments he made were just ear candy. he took the money and ran.

au revoir, "captain"

makes me wish he never got a chance to wear the C.

(now cmon lou and find someone to fill the #9 jersey)

“When it came down to it, it came between New Jersey and Minnesota,” Parise said. “I have great friends in New Jersey. I’m a loyal person. I love playing there. It’s just the idea of coming home to play to be around my family, that had a big impact on it.”

I just read this. I couldn't tell if I was luaghing or just in shock.

No issues since the Kovalchuk addendum. You just have to follow the 50% rule, which is that no salary can fall by more than 50% of the first 2 seasons (whichever is lowest). The first two years are $12 million, so any season the salary can drop by as much as $6 million. Any contract can take a player to 40 without any other consequences.
Right, but I don't like the idea of signing bonuses paid out over three years. That's not really a signing bonus at that point. Signing bonuses should be paid when you sign, not for multiple years.

IMO it becomes a salary after year one.

Lou better sneak in and grab Semin before the Nash saga is resolved. Cheaper to do so.

I think I've seen this movie before ... filmed in Hoboken, New Jersey, and they also say it's really all about New York great looking star actor ... well you know it all ...
Allways loved punch in that one - "I could've been somebody ... I could've been contender!"
