So Mitchell is like the center version of O'Brien?

Former first line centre of the Leafs John Mitchell!

(He's gonna keep DGDVDG off the Avs, which I see as a significant drawback.)

Not crazy about the signing. Would have preferred to spend the extra dough and locked down McClement. He's an ok depth guy and useful, but I just think there are many better 4th line C's out there.

Doesn't seem like Jay leaving was a money issue since we apparently offered him 2.5M to stay.

I agree, but it really seems like J Mac wanted a larger role - 3rd line center - as opposed to a larger pay cheque

Since I follow NYR in the east and Avs in the west, I thought I'd weigh in here.

John Mitchell can be a very useful player if utilized properly. He is solid on the boards, is pretty good at fo's, has a fairly decent shot and he has some skill. He can add some skill to the fourth line without losing too much grit.

When he plays to his role, he's a great guy to have on the ice. Trouble is, when he starts to get comfortable, he starts playing like a 2nd liner - which he really isn't. As a fan it can be terribly frustrating to watch him dangle the puck forever, neglect to take the first three or four easy passes and then turn the puck over on an impossible pass attempt.

Seemed to be well liked in the locker room, is a hard worker and as a bonus has a voice made for broadcasting.

Dominic Moore would have been my preferred choice.

He would have cost too much and it wouldn't be worth it to pay him as much as he is going to get to be our 4th line centre.

That ship sailed the minute the Avs practically turned their back on Steve Moore.

We signed Duchene's long-lost twin.

Having him, Orr'Brien, and Dutch on the ice at the same time will be magical!

Mitchell Heard
John Mitchell
One of Joe Sakic's boys is named Mitchell

I figure if I change my name to Mitch Mitchell, I'll get a lifetime contract with the Avs!

This signing is looking really good. Pretty solid skills for a guy on the bottom 6. Filling the ROR spot adequately to say the least.

I don't want to freak out without a larger sample size, but damn. I feel like I should go ask NYR fans about his downside to temper my excitement...
