Fast forward a couple years and, lo and behold, Zach bolts. Are you really going to try and convince us that Parise simply followed his buddy to Minnesota? If Zach was offered a monetarily comparable deal and truly wanted to stay in New Jersey, something doesn't add up. And that something is Ilya Kovalchuk, in more ways than one.

Like I said, Lou made his bed with Kovalchuk. That is your future. Deal with it.
you realize he was going to New Jersey if Suter didn't sign in Minnesota and admitted to that, right?

no?

oh.

Wow, so many levels of wrong.

Explain to me where exactly there has been any indication that Zach Parise left because Ilya Kovalchuk was the "marquee" player on New Jersey. Don't waste your time because there isn't any. Every single player on the Devils has spoken glowingly about Kovalchuk as a player and a teammate, including Parise. He never struck me as a ego-maniac that would leave because there is a better player on the team. And if that were the case, I wouldn't even want him here.

Play your same song and dance of "I told you so" (there were two options, either he stays or goes, congratulations you picked one), but Ilya Kovalchuk being a Devil has nothing to do with Parise leaving. It came down to New Jersey and Minnesota, and the home town team won (with seemingly the most important piece being Ryan Suter). I like how you say "well, if the money was the same then something doesn't add up and that's obviously Kovalchuk". Every statement out of Parise's mouth has been "hometown this and that". Or were you ignoring that on purpose?

That's the way it went. I get you have your little hatred of Kovy because he spurned you, but making things up is just stupid.

And yeah, Ilya Kovalchuk is our future. If we have to "deal with it", I do it gladly. One of the top players in the league.

if parise really didn't want to play on the devils because there's another star on the team besides him, i don't want him on the devils anyway.

Sounds like a number of things factored into Parise's decision.

I am sure among them were:

Getting Suter to go with him

NJ uncertain financial situation

Playing close to home for what should be a decent team

Very happy that the usual suspects were not able to get in on either of these two UFAs. Maybe there really is a changing of the guard that is occurring in the NHL.

With Minnesota's hot start + these additions + Granlund, I think we're finally gonna see the kind of year-to-year hockey Minnesota deserves for some time.

Glad these guys went there of all the likely possibilities.

Maybe NBC will discover that there are teams other than Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and the NYR?

If it wasn't us, glad it was Minny.

Hope you're not expecting much in the playoffs, though.

Surprised by that. He has seemed to do pretty well in the post season (based on numbers alone).

As a Habs fan I am happy that Parise is out of the east, Suter is still in the west, and that one of the weaker teams in the league got the boost instead of one of the stronger teams getting even more stacked.

Also, as someone who lives in Vancouver i'm happy that i get to watch more games with these talented players now.

I'm not expecting much. It was one my top-5 reasons why I didn't want Parise. We've already had enough playoff chokers here.

funny how past success means more then current success. Who cares what you did 10 years ago. it doens't even matter what a team did last year. What matters is the year we are going to be playing in. I have a friend who likes to re-live the one time he won a championship. I have won mutliple times and each time what happened the previous year is irrevilent to what the current year's team is doing. Who cares if you used to be pretty. Right now is what matters. But if it makes you feel better to spout off about how great you used to be feel free.

I wouldn't call 43 points in 61 games "choking".

Hell, take out his rookie year, and it rises to 46 points in 52 games.

I feel exactly the same way. If Parise didn't come to LA or stay in NJ i'm glad it's Minny he chose. Will be fun to have a different strong team in the west all year and Minny fans have been extremely loyal to the Wild since their inception. Although for the record I think they're both largely overpaid and that may hurt the Wild down the road.
