Wade Flaherty will have some work to do.

On other note:

Think there will be bad blood?

I know the Fourth Period isn't exactly a solid source for rumors, but I just realized they have a "Top 30 UFAs" page with the supposedly interested teams listed, and they seemed to have called a lot of them correctly:

Suter to MIN
Parise to MIN
Parenteau to COL
Whitney to DAL
Garrison to VAN
Jokinen to WPG
Latendresse to OTT
Prust to MTL
Penner to LAK
Tootoo to DET
Schultz to EDM

http://www.thefourthperiod.com/freeagents/top30.html

The reason I bring it up is because they the Jets listed among the teams interested in both Semin and Kostitsyn (as well as Wellwood). It could be nothing, but I found it interesting nonetheless.

Chevy was just on 1290. He stated that the Jokinen signing was way up on the list, and he was the #1 center. When asked "Are you talking to Kyle Wellwood and how are those talks going?" He responded "We are talking to Kyle Wellwood........." then there was a big pause with laughter. Obviously Kane is the most important signing, but Chevy is still looking at "upgrading" to give the coaches more options. Obvious to this is a 2nd line RW, but I'm wondering about the 4th line LW spot and defense.

Poni was on around 4:30, when he talked to Antropov he was told the team had good chemisty, and the locker room was great. Poni described this as "perfect".

Montoya was also on, he seemed genuinely excited to play here. Had a lot of respect for Flahertys work ethic.

Jokinen will be on 1290 tomorrow (Thursday the 5th) at 4:55 PM central time.

Well they listed 12 teams for each, so they had a 40% chance of being right.

This is one of the things the Jets will have to nurture in order to increase the attractiveness of Winnipeg as a destination for FA's. Good to hear that Gigantro relayed that opinion to Poni.

With the correct predictions you listed , it is something imo.

What are peoples opinion on Kristian Huselius? He could be a top 6 forward IF healthy (apparently a massive IF these days). If we could get him on a short term cheap contract would people take a risk on him?

The depth chart for WPG on capgeek is looking pretty lonely on RW.

I've always liked Huselius - but yeah, he's been almost constantly injured these last couple of seasons. I don't know...the Eric Fehr thing didn't work out, and I think Huselius would be even rustier. Could be a decent Wellwood replacement, but I doubt Chevy would risk it.

Even if nothing else happens (and I suspect some sort of trade is in the works), I'd call this a pretty solid FA period for the Jets. We are definitely a better team now than on June 30. Shored up some of our major weaknesses with Jokinen and Ponikarovsky, replaced an outgoing goalie with one that could have a nice upside, and all on reasonable dollars and low-risk terms. Nothing that will cause us too much grief if things don't pan out, and could turn out really well.

Given that a Wild-style slam dunk almost certainly wasn't in the cards for us, this has been a solid few days.

I'm with you WJG.

But i'd much rather prefer a younger and a bit faster Doan-type, imo, that's exactly what we need in our Top 6. A physical, solid contributor offensively and defensively, that plays the game with some sandpaper. I'm not a fan of some of his antics in the playoffs, but a hardnosed 20+ goal scorer would look good in our top 6.

Don't think we'd be an option for him.

If we sign Semin... Especially to a longer term contract... I may stop following the Jets.
