Yup, only 8 months to the trade deadline...it's pretty much Nash, Ryan or bust at this point.

Bobby Ryan, my guess is winds up in Philly or with NYR (whichever team doesn't get Nash). Or he stays in Anaheim. I wouldn't trade him.

I think one is also contingent on the other too.

Where are you getting this information?

The deals for Nash and Ryan are stagnant. They want a lot, we aren't giving a lot.

The Rangers have a lot of interest in Doan. And Doan's agent said there's no restrictions on Eastern teams including "the one that plays in Manhattan".

http://www.snyrangersblog.com/2012/0...in-shane-doan/

Long shot?

Its much less of a long shot than the Rangers allowing a youth exodus for Nash or Ryan.

Alright so, besides the Nash situation, the Rangers need a RD to play on the 2nd pair who can act as a trigger man on the PP.

Any ideas on trades that they could do reasonably to address this?

If Shea Weber pushes for a trade do the Rangers have any assets to offer besides Dubi?

Signing him would probably cost Suter numbers so I guess the Rangers would only sign him if they could steal him (giving up few assets) ? Are my assumptions valid?

Bobby Ryan isn't going back to Cali... I'm pretty sure he went out and said he didn't want to return.

Getting Weber means your losing Staal++.

As I have said, Nashville doesn't have to trade him to us, and there will be teams that will give FAR more to acquire him. I can only imagine what Weber is going to return.

Rangers can't afford to give up the assets for Weber. Especially considering he will be a one year rental. He's a RFA now.

And when he signs somewhere next summer he will get what Suter got or more.

Not worth it.

Yep, not worth it. Don't get me wrong Weber is EXACTLY what we lack on the D corps. But its not cost efficient. You can address that need for far less.

Stralman is our best bet for now.

Rangers were linked to Yandle. But like Nash and Ryan, the price was too steep.

Anyone better than Stralman will be over priced. And hard to get.

Stralman is good for what he will cost. If we can sign him for 3 years and get good value from him, best way to go.

It would be nice to get a more dynamic offensive defenseman. But they're at a premium. Especially right-handed dynamic offensive defensemen.

Juicy, juicy! Our rivals are definitely getting worse thus far.

Stralman is a nice stop gap I guess, he is good enough defensively to be in our 2nd pairing.

But his shot, although surprisingly accurate, scares nobody. We need a guy who can shoot bombs and will start to pull defenders higher on their PK.

Either that or invest in an assistant who can run a PP.

Carle is not a major loss defensively. I think his PP points are inflated as well. They will survive without him.

i'm hoping that a healthy marc staal with a full training camp can make the switch over to the right side and then stralman becomes a heck of a 3rd pair guy

The only time Stralman had a full season to be a top four defenseman he put up 34 points. On a **** team in Columbus.

He's still young. And the way he played for us this year was solid. Both ways. Not perfect but solid enough.

A full training camp, and a full season here, he can be a real effective player. He may put up 30+ points.

Looking at Carle...that's comparable numbers, at what will most likely be much less in salary.

And Anton is right-handed.

It doesn't have to scare anybody. It just needs to get through traffic. And he does that well enough.

Yeah, I mean I really wish that Staal could become a triggerman on the PP. His shot is good, hard and accurate. But...

1)He is mediocre lateral skater, which becomes a real problem on a shooting PP.

2)He handles the puck like a hand grenade.

His point game is what is holding him back.
