If true, that's a bummer, depending on the term.

That's insane.....Flyers fans don't seem too upset that he may be leaving......Carle was more of a product of being paired with Pronger !

If true, then not a bummer.

I would also say that the Caps should try to take the risk with Green. Just one fan's opinion.

If this is any indication of what the market is truely for D, the Caps should be talking to Green about a longterm deal right now. If they do it now vs. waiting for healthy Mike Green to show up and look great offensively again next year under Oates, they might save some money.

This team is in critical flux right now. We could be one year away from Green, Semin, and Ribeiro walking for nothing. Kuznetzov no where in sight and the cupboards barely restocked with some prospects that might take a few years to make a difference in the NHL.

We have Ovy, Backstrom, Carlson, Alzner, Laich, Orlov, Ward and Mojo locked up for the forseeable future. Beyond that, we could be looking at a totally rebuilt team. I don't have to warm and fuzzies, but it's still only July. I just pray McPhee does his job and pulls off a solid trade.

I want Doan time. Short-term, 1-2 years @ $5-6mill. I really don't want to give up any of our prospects for B Ryan. We're kind of lacking in the prospects department.

Ryan time has passed. It was Ryan time when everyone else was after Parise. Now all the losers are going to aim for Ryan and I think we have the least ammo to get him. Another fail on GMGM.

The pieces that should be in play are:

Mojo
Laich
Schultz
Erskine
Perreault
Kuznetsov
Galiev
1st round pick

Carle to TB done. 6-years, $33 million. $5.5M annual cap hit.

Most importantly, no team in the East gets a lot better. Yes, that starts with the Penguins, but there are a few others that didn't need to be adding an elite player either.

There are certainly other free agents out there, but most of them have warts.
Considering their crappy drafts and now these free agency dissapointments, I'd say both Pens and Flyers have had a pretty forgettable summer. Couldn't be happier.

Listening to a recent interview with Green he mentioned hoping that an agreement happens before tomorrow (7/5), which is the last day for players to file for arbitration. Not that a deal couldn't get done prior to the eventual arbitration date but this would be the least preferable route I think.

Either commit to the player or don't. Don't make next season all about him proving himself and running the risk of losing him for nothing. I can understand that reasoning with wingers but less so top 4 D when replacements aren't readily available. Of course, 52 has to be reasonable in his demands as well. Tough situation.

What on earth are you talking about? How do you know they were willing to trade Ryan before Suter/Parise were signed?

I hope a reasonable aggrement can be reached with Green. If he's 100% healthy he's a help. 5.5 mill for 3-4 yrs? Tough to do if you question his health.
