There is no way Detroit will make a hockey trade with a team it considers a possible Cup opponent. Unless they decide to rebuild they're not going to trade good roster assets to us.
To reiterate from prior thread and other thread: JBo is a Ryan Whitney clone without the top flight offensive capabilites - also known as 6'4" Martin for $6.6M Pass.
I like the Martin for Wilson idea people have bounced around.

RE: Whether or not we could sign both Suter and Parise w/o dumping Michalek and going 10% over the cap.
If signing Suter and Parise would have put us over the cap by more than 10%, without dumping Michalek, we probably couldn't have afforded them in the first place...but, even with that, Michalek could easily be dumped for nothing/picks before finalizing one of the deals. Or, even waiting until July 1st, Shero would have called Suter's camp, immediately found out he wasn't interested, and definitely knows there's no rush to unload him. Maybe is Suter's camp seems interested along with Parise, then you dump him.
But it was a completely unnecessary risk and we're worse team for it today. I just want a reporter to press him on why it was necessary to make the move then and for what was gained from it.
- I'd first inquire about Doan to make sure he doesn't want to leave the West.
- I'd then see if we could get Semin on a 1 year deal since we missed out on Parise. I wouldn't commit long term to him.
- I'd look into Hemsky. They are young and rebuilding, we have loads of D prospects.
- I'd inquire about Ryan I'd guess Despres + Bennett + Martin or something like that. I don't think we could afford to give up Despres let alone Martin without getting D from somewhere else.
- CBJ is asking for too much for Nash, I wouldn't put much effort into him.
- I'd look into A. Kostitsyn, he could come relatively cheap and be reinvigorated playing with Sid/Geno.
- I don't thin I'd take a chance on Mueller and his concussion history.

Another option is Kane from WPG. It would cost to get him, but should not cost as much as Ryan or Nash and the kid would be great here. Just saying its an option also, one that I hope Shero is exploring.
I said it days ago, this mythical allure that everyone has that players would die for the chance to play with Sid and Geno just isn't true. Top flight guys would usually rather captain a team over being 4th or 5th fiddle here. Shero offers less money banking on guys wanting to play with Sid. That philosophy just isn't working. Sure, we can land guys like Fedotenko, or guys on their last legs like Guerin. But Hossa, Jagr, and now Parise all chose elsewhere. Money talks.
First, they didn't land Guerin, they traded for him. Second, Sid has been with the team for how many years, and you list 3 players they were unable to "land" (and, really, how can you count Jagr? It seems clear that the only thing he's interested in playing with is the biggest contract possible).
It doesn't seem like Parise's decision came down to talent, or money, or anything. It seems like it came down to where he was born.
Not sure on Hossa. I guess I'll give you that one.
I'm just not seeing people avoiding Pittsburgh/Sid.
And after they play in Pittsburgh - with the exception of Hossa - players seem willing to stay, on fair contracts, and speak glowingly of the team.

Only think in this thats reasonable is Semin, Hemsky, AK47, Mueller. As mentioned in the last thread. I can see depth and charachter coming here more than skill at this point. A trade with Detroit for someone, a trade with SJ for Clowe.
