Although a trade for Clowe would be nice...

More years and money then Martin for a more unproven player. I don't get it.

Letang is going to get a huge extension. I don't even want to speculate on it, but let's hope those 8+ year contracts aren't taken out in the new CBA.

I'm really squeamish about Shero pulling the trigger on a big trade, especially one for Nash. We missed out on a big name, oh well. Sort through whoever is left and try to come up with a couple stopgap guys. See how the season plays out, see what's available at the deadline, and maybe take another run at a guy next offseason. I just don't want to see them make a trade now just because they want to add a name (not that I really think Shero will do something that silly, but it's these kinds of things that I worry about).

- I'd look into Hemsky. They are young and rebuilding, we have loads of D prospects.
- I'd inquire about Ryan I'd guess
Despres + Bennett + Martin or something like that. I don't think we could afford to give up Despres let alone Martin without getting D from somewhere else.
- CBJ is asking for too much for Nash, I wouldn't put much effort into him.
- I'd look into A. Kostitsyn, he could come relatively cheap and be reinvigorated playing with Sid/Geno.
- I don't thin I'd take a chance on Mueller and his concussion history.

I would take a chance on Muller. He would fit nice on sids wing, plus you could get him cheap on a 1 year deal. low risk high reward.

The low risk high reward signing would be Mueller.... He won'T command a lot... We could offer him a deal as Latendresse... With bonuses... He is so gifted offensively !! He is worth the gamble... I know I am high on the kid but I really think he can bounce back !! I would also like a Doan signing....

Wow, what a depressing offseason so far...we get killed in the playoffs and get rid of Staal and Michalek, and get...Sutter and Tanner Glass.

Is there a winger that is the consensus #1 pick in the next draft or something?

Having seen the deals that Minny handed out to both of them ... I'm glad we didn't get them. Not the $$$, but the term is ridiculous. Offseason will look like a failure however, since we cleared all that cap space to come away with nothing substantial in the UFA market.

I don't want Nash. Price is too high and I don't think we have the pieces to get it done anyway unless Howson is as stupid as he seems and is willing to deal him for 3 puck-moving prospects. Same with Ryan and not having what it would take (if rumors are true). Roster appears full at this point anyway. Best bet is to sit tight or make a hockey trade for one of the lesser mentioned guys, or wait for in-season/deadline pickups. We still have a contending roster as it stands now anyway.

Another reason I wish we wouldve taken a chance on Boyes, NYI gave him 1M, im sure he would have come here for the same, offer him what... 200K more to turn him this way. So 1.2M, sure he could be completely busted, but 1.2M or even 1M is a extremely low risk and possible reward for a scorer if he couldve rebounded. Oh well... hind sight is 20/20.

We got worse in many ways without sufficient replacements.

Being a top team is one thing, (they'll always be this with Sid & Geno) but being one and being one that's a heavily favorite to win the cup are two separate things entirely.

I don't see this. It's one thing to skimp out on the forwards, but the defense is atrocious.

Yep. If people think Martin is terrible for his cap hit, "at least he's not Carle" is the perfect response. He'd get killed on this forum. And rightfully so.

Maybe in some ways on paper, but we have busted the last three years in the playffs and -- at least as of right now -- have regressed as compared to last season.

The defence is one poor season of Michalek from being the exact same as it was last year, which was 12th in the league.

We got worse in two ways - third line C, and no Michalek. That's not that bad, especially if Despres or whoever comes in and plays well and if Martin gets back to his form of two season ago.

Lot of time left before the playoffs and trade deadline. Let's take a deep breath everyone.

I'd take a flyer on Mueller. If he can pass the medical tests that Sid did to come back the second time, what's the risk?

In the playoffs? Against teams that actually play D, i.e. not Philly, yes I am.

This team's offense runs through Sid/Geno from now on. Build around them accordingly.

Shero's going to HAVE to make moves. Plural, as in several.

Our offense is worse, but it was phenomenal last season without Sid, so I think it will be alright. Our defense was awful, and is somehow worse.

Our defense is the most glaring issue, in my eyes, but I don't think anyone is available that would actually help.

So **** it. Go, Shero... Go get Ryan and Stewart!

If signing Suter and Parise would have put us over the cap by more than 10%, without dumping Michalek, we probably couldn't have afforded them in the first place...but, even with that, Michalek could easily be dumped for nothing/picks before finalizing one of the deals. Or, even waiting until July 1st, Shero would have called Suter's camp, immediately found out he wasn't interested, and definitely knows there's no rush to unload him. Maybe is Suter's camp seems interested along with Parise, then you dump him.

But it was a completely unnecessary risk and we're worse team for it today. I just want a reporter to press him on why it was necessary to make the move then and for what was gained from it.
Something like the 3rd round pick for Hamhuis' rights except worse!

The offense is fine. And just a heads up, the offense will ALWAYS run through Sid and Geno. Even if we happen to get Ryan, Nash, Semin, or whoever.

I think our young guys could actually step in and improve our d. Strait and Bortuzzo know the system inside and out, were a good shutdown pair in the A, and looked very good in their limited call-ups.

The downgrade from Staal to Sutter offensively is pretty significant. In playoff hockey, that's going to be huge.

We absolutely need to give Sid some help. You're out to lunch if you think otherwise.
