We need depth, so I am not complaining on the signing. I thought it was a complete and utter joke that Torts was shifting no-talent D's as forwards in crucial games during the PO's.

BUT, as we already know, what this team "EXACTLY" wants is never skill. Sooo often the lack of talent-card is played by Torts and Slats, but skill seems to only be a side thought and a premium when a player has everything else.

If we don't start playing better hockey, some of our players will wear out sooner rather than later (just take your pick among guys like Girardi, Callahan and co). Sure, we are at a great position right now -- but things can turn fast in this league. And until we bring some skill to this lineup -- we will have to work tremendously hard to score goals.

I don't think it's far fetched to believe we'll be a worse team as far as the standings go. In fact if I had to bet I'd place money on us being worse than better. We finished 1st in the East chances of repeating that aren't great. Probably a 4th seed which is what we expected last year.

We finished 1st this year and where did it get us?

Kings finished 8th and won it all.

The moves Sather has made so far will help us more in the post season than during the regular season.

Yeah I'm not *****ing I am just saying that predicting we'll be "worse" next year isn't exactly a bold statement.

I like this signing. Another under the radar pick up. He adds size and a little skill. Ponikarovsky is a similar player at this point in his career and he was effective in his role on the Devils. 10 goals and 15 assists is solid production for a 3rd/4th liner.

This makes me believe the Rangers wanted Moen and missed the boat though.

This is a good signing. Much like Boyle was big but didn't use his body as much I think Pyatt can learn to be a bit more physical. He absolutely has more speed and is an upgrade over prust in terms of talent. He plays with a lot of heart and knows how to play defense and has played power play in front of the net before as well.

Sather has now gotten two players for the price of Prust's new contract and hasn't really sacrificed on the talent side. Well done.

What I don't get is how solid depth signings like this are prompting hate for the Rangers' offseason moves so far.

They're DEPTH SIGNINGS. They weren't done to fix the scoring problem. Clearly, Slats is working on top six options; the fact that they're taking a while shouldn't impact people's opinions of the bottom six moves he's completing in the meantime.

I know you're being sarcastic, but Mitchell along with their other centers puts them as serious contenders for a playoff spot and who knows what happens in the playoffs.

We are getting much slower as a whole... Pyatt makes Boyle look like Kreider.

Just got home and not trying to read the whole thread. Is Pyatt a 3rd or 4th liner? Can we get away with a third line of Hagelin-Anisimov-Pyatt next year?

I've heard of this guy... Probably watched him a few times, but never noticed him.

Tell me what this guy's game is about? Good replacement for Prust and or Feds?

Paul Stastny and Matt Duchene put them as serious contenders for the playoffs...NOT John Mitchell.

Its probably been mentioned already, but this signing will not bode well for the conspiracy theorist out there who believe the Rangers only acquire players for their looks

Good signing for the bottom six, and he did fit in nicely with the Sedins so he can be a stop gap left winger for Gaborik and Richards for a few games here or there...also he is a good looking guy so he fits right in with what the higher ups are going for...I mean that's not what they're doing

That does not look like great speed. Looks like a bulky inefficient stride of a tired player. But otherwise Ranger fans are going to like him.

Dude.

He's 6-4.

At the end of a shift he got up the ice quick enough and had the frame of mind to set up a goal.

You guys are ridiculous.

This is a player far more skilled than any player we have had in the bottom six, in years, someone who is effective at both ends of the rink.

And folks are whining because he's not a top line 8 million dollar super star.

Tortorella talked over and over and over about depth. Quality depth. Pyatt is quality depth.
