97 turnovers a game, man I wish he can just get 3 more than everyone gets a free apple pie from McDonalds.

I like how Philly couldn't keep the puck out of their own net in the playoffs, get worse on defense and goaltending, and be ok with it. Even celebrating that one of their guys is gone.

Yet, they wonder why they can't win another Cup.

I see there has already been one, but Carle was quite the polarizing figure. Great puck possession and usage for the Flyers, where they just better hope they've already replaced with Schenn and Gustafsson. People here who read into advanced numbers will love him, and people who don't will hate him. Personally, I don't feel he will excel under Boucher, but I would have easily not only matched the contract but gone higher, but we have other options we can do.

so what number does carle wear? Because 5 is Ohlund now, I doubt they will let him take 25, and i think he used to be 18 in san jose which is Hall?? These big decisions need to be made.

Considering the deal that Suter got, this isn't much of an overpayment for Carle. He was the best defenseman available after Suter went, and the blueline is Tampa's biggest need.

I don't see the problem here. But Flyers fans would have complained about 80's Gretzky if he was on their team...

He improves our defense. That's the idea.

I'm feeling great about next season- the defense is probably twice as good as last season, same for the net minders, and the offense is somewhat better as well. we'll at least make the playoffs, hopefully...

Yep, he had solid splits on zone starts and outshot the opposition while on the ice so i'll take it. Can roll Hed-Brewer and Carle-Salo.

On this point, I do feel that Carle wasn't as good in the playoffs, since you play a team over and over again, you can adjust more effectively.

Flyers fans will definitely be keeping watch over what happens. Every Matt Carle debate is a war.

I like the deal, not my first choice in money or term but the best part is as a fan:

1. WE DIDNT HAVE TO GIVE UP PLAYERS/PROSPECTS/PICKS
2. ITS NOT OUR MONEY! i know people get upset over $1M, but in the grand scheme of things who cares. we got a top 4 D, if hedman takes a stride forward we have a decent d. Not amazing but decent.

I really think he is perfect in this system, Guy wants a "puck retriever" thats exactly what Carle can do.

p.s. I really think Lee is the one that will make the difference between an okay D and a pretty good one. If he makes a solid stride in his game we have some depth

I have no problem with this deal, it's not 13 years and the cap hit isn't too bad with the cap going up. I'm more worried about Salo staying healthy, Carle has been pretty injury free and eats up minutes. Brewer's been decent for us but Carle is much better as a top pair with Hedman. Brewer can now play on the 2nd pair, lower his minutes where he can stay fresh and be on the top PK. Our D isn't like the King's yet but we're much more respectable. Lindback/Garon get a .910 save % and were in the playoffs.

Well, if it's true and Philly's looking at Gervais then it explains a bunch right there...

If by improving the defense, you mean, gets beat every shift and turns the puck over constantly, then yeah, he improves the defense.

And by actually watching every Flyers playoff game like I did, he shouldn't even be on the AHL level.

I hope Guy keeps HedBrewer together after spending pretty much all of last year together. Let the chemistry work itself. Salo is a vet, Carle is a good skater and can cover for Salo on that part.

Blame Feaster. Carle is a more capable dman than Wideman. No doubt about it.

Nice pick ups of Salo and Carle this offseason. What are your defensive pairs looking like right now?

Nicely said

Carle is what he is....pair him with a stay at home guy and he is a solid 2 pairing puck mover with a few flaws, undfortunately that contract is now his market value
